Show statistical health report holds bi interest terest some interesting statistics appear in a report recently complied compiled by the sevier county public health nurses miss pearl black and miss lavon greenwood for the first three quarters of the year ending september 30 there were in the county births and 47 deaths contagious diseases reported were measles chicken pox 97 whooping cough influenza 19 scarlet fever 11 pneumonia 6 diphtheria 1 mumps 1 tuberculosis 4 syphilis 4 gonorrhea 4 4 commenting on the diseases reported the nurses state the number of reported diseases for sevier county for the past quarter was small we are of the opinion that this number is not entirely accurate in many instances the first case of a communicable muni cable disease in a home is the only one reported other cases are not reported because the family are already alread y in frequently individuals fail to report diseases to their local health officer this shows that there is still a great need for health education in this field when people will use all of the available knowledge many communicable diseases will be completely eradicated and much human misery prevented activities of nurses were listed as follows for the nine months nursing visits disease infant and preschool pre school school maternal crippled children health conferences held 46 with total attendance of immunizations smallpox diphtheria laboratory tests the report makes the following loving fol other comments our activities in tuberculosis control have continued to increase during the last quarter 42 new cases and contacts were admitted to nursing service with the approval ot ol the family physician 48 tuberculin patch tests were applied there were 13 positive reactions arrangements have been made through the state tuberculosis association for eight X rays to be taken at the state sanatorium the funds for the patch tests and X rays are from the local tuberculosis seal sale frequently transportation to ogden for X rays is a difficult community problem during this quarter three p patients have been admitted to the state sanatorium one was discharged during the first two weeks of school all of the schools in the sevier district were visited the first aid cabinets were cleaned and supplied with first aid material assisted by the teachers the public health nurses completed vision inspections using the symbol E snellen chart on all first grade students nine children were found with vision defects in each instance the defect reported to the parent and the child was referred to an occultist it is important that at the beginning of each school year the teacher and parents know that the childs eyes are in good condition for use vision inspection done with the symbol E chart gives information on whether or not the child can see well at a distance symptoms of other disturbances of the eye and such conditions as cross eye are arc observed by the teacher and reported to the public health nurse for follow up service A manual for teachers to use as a guide for the school health nurse service has been completed this manual was prepared to list and explain briefly the local health services available to the sevier county schools through its use we hope to gain more effective use of our time spent in school |
