| Show t clubs organize to combat cancer mobilization of a utah field army to combat cancer which claims more lives annually in the united states than any other disease except heart disease be began I 1 monday afternoon at a me meeting tin in the lie newhouse hotel called by mrs J L gibson president of the utah federation of clubs and state slate commander of the utah army the utah mobilization marked the entrance of the thirtieth state into the campaign to combat cancer through education district presidents of the federation will serve as captains of the field army representatives of other organizations will serve as vice commanders the campaign will he be c conducted ni with the cooperation of the U utah tali medical profession arid and health au t and will be directed to in firming the public that thai upon early eaily diagnosis of the disease depends the cle cure through either cither surgery radium or xray X ray doctors at the meeting assured the women that all other cancer cures advertised by qu aclis were unmitigated frauds that medical authorities to date recognized nothing except the thi cc standard ti cat ments as valid cancer is curable the doctors assured the women but to be cured it must be detected before it enters the advanced stage therefore the women were told public bublic education campaigns to stress early diagnosis and to remove public horror of the disease offer the most feasible plan of attack dr cowan also explained that next spring a drive for enlistments in the field army against cancer at one dollar each will be launched of the sum raised 70 per cent will be devoted to activities within the state 20 per cent will be devoted to central office field expense and 10 per cent will be placed in a contingent fund the doctor also said that the medical association is conducting a similar but more technical campaign within the profession |
