Show Commission Approves Improvements In Davis Emergency Radio By TOM HARALDSEN FARMINGTON - Problems with radio transmissions in various parts of the county led commissioners to approve a proposal by the Davis County Sheriff's office for a new emergency radio system addition. THE COMMISSION learned that radio signals sig-nals were having difficulty in being transmitted and received at various "dark" spots, particularly particu-larly in portions of Sunset, West Point and Clinton. Four months ago, the antenna system was divided into two locations, one at the north end of the county near the sewage treatment plant and the second in Bountiful. But that in turn created some dark spots in the south end of the county, so sheriff s officials offi-cials began looking into alternatives. THE NEW "voter system" will help carry signals from all parts of the county to central dispatch. It will deal with only the county emergency channels and will modify the receiver re-ceiver in Syracuse and replace a portion of the one in Bountiful. Though viewed by the commission as a "bandaid situation" of short-term help, the changes will still improve a system that needs major revamping, according to officials. THE COUNTY is looking into the possibility of locating a radio transmitter on or near Antelope Ante-lope Island in the future, although they are concerned about lack of access and power at the site at the present time. For that plan to work, an alternate energy system would have to be used, perhaps solar power or wind power being possibilities, the commission was told. In order to pay for the new system, the commission com-mission authorized a capital budget change for the sheriffs office, allowing $4500 set aside for a call check system to be added to $2600 the paramedic program had saved from a previous purchase to buy the new system. "WE FEEL this system will alleviate the problems with dark spots we've been experiencing, ex-periencing, and while not a cure-all for the system sys-tem as a whole, will buy us some lime unlil wo can make other major changes." one official said. The new system should be on line in the next few weeks. "" - - ' ' ""J |
