Show FLAYING THE STOCK BROKER the grand jury of salt lake county is to be commended for their action last week in returning indictments a against ainest a number of stock brokers who are charged with ith having used the mails and other methods of fleecing fleeming flee cing the public out of money for the pur chase of worthless stocks and securities it is charged that these men were operating with little if any capital and that the money obi obtained i was used for these brokers to bolster up their slim personal finances this sort of thing has been going on entirely too EGO long unchecked in this state and elsewhere it is strange that the people will never learn their lesson about betting on the other fellows game except by dear and costly experience sucker money was the title of a recent article in a current magazine and the writer I 1 I 1 stated that these swindlers lers in oil promotion in and other wildcat schemes have no scruples about taking this ea easy eagy gy money because they feel that thatis if they they do not get it someone else will the writer adds that those these suckers are as guilty dwity as the promoters because they are really gamblers and are led into the trap by the expectation pec tation of huge winnings on a small anve investment estment which would be 1 possible only by fraudulent methods I 1 I 1 will rogers writes in his daily syndicated article published in mondays daily papers as follows just juat been talking today out here to all the senators investigating these stock swindles and over there has been millions and hundreds of millions lost there ought to be some sort of guardianship for people that buy all this junk education wont do it for they say less than live five per cent of these sales are arc made to people who cant read or write of course there are legitimate investments which people can safely make with a reasonable and certain return for their money but what strikes us as peculiar is that folks will lake such a long chance with people who are total strangers stran ers to them th cm we once read a bit of advice from an article entitled confessions of a crook in which it was vas stated that if people would investigate their man and ignore the proposition they would not go far wrong if we will find out the standing of the men who are promoters or directors of these investment companies it will be easy for us to know whether or not our money will vill be safe in their hands it is sincerely to be hoped that the courts will see to it that these I 1 I 1 stock brokers are given punish ment commensurate with the crime they have allegedly committed and that the public will profit by their bitter lesson |
