Show 01 HELD SUNDAY mrs otto L anderson will assist with next program the weekly organ recitals at the tabernacle being given by stanley brain will hereafter be held on sunday afternoons at 4 p m this change is made to make it more convenient for the public to attend them it is hoped that the new time will be agreeable to all those interested at this weeks recital mr aar brain w will ill be assisted by mrs otto L anderson vocalist of richfield the program for next sunday afternoon november 19 at 4 p in is as follows 1 ruy blas bias overture by mendelssohn dels sohn 2 andante cantabile lle from a sonata by R strauss 3 la feria suite by lacome 4 vocal solo nymphs and fauns dauns by bemberg mrs otto L anderson 5 vocal solos a mr mr robin by glenn b A memory by ganz mrs otto L anderson 6 a the angelus by mas senet b fete boheme by mas maa senet 7 adagio from the moonlight sonata by beethoven 8 valse gracieuse by dvorak 9 pilgrims chorus from by wagner the overture was written by mendelssohn for victor hugos drama ruy blas bias composed and first performed in 1839 in leipzig there have been and still are several famous musicians and writers of music by the name of strauss there is the oscar strauss of the chocolate soldier fame then the johann strauss and his son famous composers of waltzes and the composer of the second number on this program Is one of great modernists by name richard strauss the adagio cantabile is from his B minor sonata A literal translation of the musical term adagio cantabile is slow and in a singing style sonatas are usually written and divided into three or four sections and the second section or movement is usually the slow one marked as andante adagio or largo the la feria suite is a spanish selection divided into three parts all 11 of them expressive of festival atmosphere mrs andersons Ander sens songs are all of ahagh a high order the nymphs and fauns dauns number is in concert waltz sty lefor which the french are noted as being so skillful rudolf ganz one of the worlds greatest pianists has haa written the splendid and simple song which mrs anderson has chosen as one of her solos massanet Mas senet one of frances finest contributions to the world of music has written music in nearly every conceivable form and expressive of all the human emotions in the music on this program are two selections from his scenes they are typical of french rural life there are many little musical numbers by the name of valse gracieuse or gracious waltz as we would say in english but this one by the composer of the famous humoresque and the new world wo ald symphony is one of the most charming dvorak although a bohemian lived for quite a time in our midwestern mid western prairie states it was there that he received the impressions which he afterwards put into musical form as the symphony from the new world 11 the two remaining numbers on the program are so well known as to need no comment the famous moonlight sonata adagio will be played on the piano as it is distinctly a piano piece and not well adapted for the organ |
