Show RICHFIELD efly MAES HIT IN LEE capacity audiences applaud and city opens doors to kiddies the richfield baby orchestra which finishes a weeks ega engagement ge at the or orpheum p heum theat theatre r e i in salt lake city on wednesday a y night of this week is going over even bigger than was eap exp expected d and the moth mothers e rs and 30 1 kiddies s will return home thursday evening the theatre was packed to capacity p at almost every performance and the manager made the statement that this act is one of the best they have had there on the stage for years the children have been kept well and happy all the time and eagerly looked forward to each performance the smaller ones had naps before the evening show and about 20 of the mothers have given them constant care not only did the baby orchestra play well but they injected little unconscious antics in the at act which kept the appreciative audiences in an uproar no other act on the bill received such applause as aa did these kiddies and the soloists were often encored the salt alke tribune gave kindly and favorable comment upon this act in several of their issues but the deseret news dramatic reviewer made nasty catty and uncalled for comment after the first night performance which aroused the righteous ire of all the mothers after the true situation was explained to the editor of this newspaper a signed article by the editor of the richfield reaper was printed to make amends to some extent for the injustice done the tribune took a staff photo of the orchestra which will be published soon after they finish their engagement in salt lake and showed remarkable sympathy and understanding of this act legrande payne salt lake chief ot of police arranged for a motorcycle escort for the orchestra caravan of cars as they arrived in the city with banners flying several of the orchestra members were taken for motorcycle rides by the speed cops the western creamery company chartered a big bus and took the children and mothers for an interesting sightseeing sight seeing tour of the city other entertainment was arranged and in fact the capital city did itself proud in entertaining these talented kiddies from richfield whom mr and mrs J G hilgendorff have built up into a musical organization which has given wide and favorable publicity to this community the following letter fram E L kroll aroll proprietor of the western music art co of salt lake gives an idea of what a musician thinks of this act dear mr asbury no doubt you havo heard from airs asbury regarding the first days performance of the kiddies orchestra from an impartial standpoint I 1 can say the following considering the strange people and the entire new atmosphere for the kiddies the lights stage and so forth their first performance was fair but the early and late evening acts were admirable now that the first day is over there is no reason for anxiety y as to how bow the rest will turn out as the children have quite adjusted themselves to the new atmosphere almost better than the adults they have complete confidence in themselves it is a great thing for richfield Rich neld monroe and elsinore to have accomplished this feat and you can truly say in your newspaper that is is more than worthwhile as far as the sacrifice the mothers are making and expenses are concerned the foundation as I 1 figure it which will hold the orchestra together and put over better performances for mances every day is the great ability of the master of ceremonies your boy little kay hilgendorff gen dorff the conductor and mrs hilgendorff the pianist who is with the kiddies every second in time and expression you may also thank mrs asbury who I 1 know has done so much in arranging the affair with the hoping that the children will have continued success I 1 am yours very truly E L KROLL |
