| Show BOYS m OF B V I 1 AHE FEELING FINE IN first ser sergeant 0 bant gives graphic account of camp life first sergeant B C luth of battery E field artillery writes to us from camp W G williams jordan narrows under date of august S at the end of the first week of our encampment I 1 feel that it might be well to write a 1 few lines to the reaper in in regail to the life we are leading up here those of us who attended the encampment camp ment last year were very agreeably sur surprised when we ve arrived this meae conditions liere here are surely chan changed I 1 ed last year we v e slept in tents with th dirt floors this year we have g good 0 d wood 0 d floors for them last year we carried ed water in buckets an and d washed in tin wash pans this year we have in an up to date bath house with hot and cold water and oven every other convenience that could be des desiron irod last year our mess halls balls were temporary affairs with dirt floors and tent roofs this scar icar we have permanent anent M kitchens with cement floors electric lights good goad ranges nice tables enamelware dishes and in an excellent cook in first cook warren J sandberg our mess is just about as good as the F average people have at home which is is mighty good in the army I 1 the rhe spirit 0 of our boys is ven very good NN bot ot a single complaint has been forthcoming when I 1 give them K P or put them on the bath houe detail or any other detail work the boys from konie home are liying very hard and they are really making a lot of progress and getting a lot of good out of the encampment camp ment by the time we finish another eek here the entire organization should be running like clockwork up to late date the time has been devoted to the instruction of th men in their various duties this will continue until next wednesday morning when we fire our first actual problems of warfare the big guns will be fired on wednesday thursday and friday saturday I 1 believe we will take down our large pyramidal tents and set up our pup tents which we will use until we break camp saturday we are due for a trip to saratoga springs for a time sunday we will return and prepare to leave camp the following morning tomorrow evening we are slated to put on a formal guard mount this is the first time since the organization of our battery that we have been called callea upon to perform this ceremony it is quite an impressive ceremony and I 1 only hope that some afternoon we will be able to go through it for the benefit of those people in richfield who have never before had an opportunity of witnessing it I 1 realize that it is possible that you may publish a part or all of this letter in the reaper therefore I 1 think it might be well to mention for the benefit of the many anxious wives and mothers that the health and general physical condition of our organization to date has been excellent everyone feels fine and is enjoying the trip the bugler has just sounded taps so I 1 must discontinue my mv letter and hit the hay yours very truly B C luth mgt battery E F A |
