Show JOHN T cae III GIVES GLIMPSE THE OIRY IND promises to write complete story and send it to utah papers john joha T caine III former livestock specialist of the utah agricultural college wd and known all over the statland state and the largest part of the country who no now w is chief of the pack packers ers and stock yards administration of the U S department of agriculture at washington D C wrote a letter to president R D young you hg which is so interesting that we asked sir mr youngs permission to publish it which was gladly given mr caine says dear president youn young g A richfield rc i h field item in the utah papers of recent date interested me greatly the item has to do with the sego milk company acquiring a plant in richfield for the production of condensed milk As I 1 am a little homesick this mornin morning 9 anyway I 1 have been going over in in my mind the dairy history of sevier county as I 1 know it some day when time permits I 1 shall try tn to write a complete story of this development and send it on to the utah papers when I 1 think of the dairy conditions as they were in 1907 and from then on until within a few years it is almost like the end of a dream f ream to think that so much milk is being produced in your county president as I 1 remember had practically the only purebred dairy cattle when I 1 first made a trip to richfield later on chariton similler and the boys at joseph built up purebred herds holsteins were brought in as I 1 remember by a number of people among TI 9 them my friend jesse willes who was a brakeman on the sanpete e tese te se vier line and nov no lives near joseph later I 1 remember how proud we all were when the holstein bull purchased in wisconsin by your dairy association was nas grand cham champion plon at the state ata asir fa Y at salt lake these are just little side lights the main idea is that a few people have had faith in the dairy business and have kept going along a well thought out path those of you who have kept up the cheese factory and creamery in richfield are certainly to be congratulated As I 1 see it another mile post has been passed in the development of your county and as usual you have been at the front of this work of cou course m the work cannot stop but must go on and develop until sevier county produces her full share of good milk there is always plenty of work to do in connection with a problem of this kind but I 1 surely feel that you are to be congratulated upon the work done so far we are havin having a very pleasant summer in washington though we lave have had a few real hot days the caine family are enjoying themselves and but for the sad event which happened to us in march when we lost our anteen months old boy bill this has been a great experience I 1 am hoping to get to utah sometime this fall and would certainly appreciate a visit with you with kindest personal regards I 1 remain remain very truly yours john T caine |
