Show NATIONAL FOREST recreation R GROUNDS I 1 six si thousand hunt hunters e rs and yi I 1 li C r inen visited F forest last year over a quarter of a million people visited the national forests of the intermountain ter region last year says district forester R H ruthledge who bases his statement upon reports just received from the forest supervisors of this region this number is about one third greater than was reported a year ago indicating a growing appreciation of the national forests as recreation grounds among the public coupled with better chances to enjoy the forests on account of the improvement of roads this later feature has brought in a flood of automobile tourists to whom many parts of the forests have been impossible heretofore campers show but little increase over last year hunters and fishermen have increased about thirty five per cent over 1921 in spite of oc this great increase in the number of transient tourists the average time spent on the forests for all classes of recreations ests shows an increase over last year indicating that people are learning to go out and really spend some time in hunting fishing and enjoying the forests th the e fishlike fishlake fillmore forest was visited by bil hunters and fishermen chiefly visiting fish lake while the famous big game and fishing region on the teton forest saw only one quarter of this number during the last year vear the number of visitors to the dixie forest which contains cedar breaks in southern utah increased four times visitors to the dolse boise forest trebled and on the teton Fish fishlike fishlake lake and cache forests they doubled these increases are directly due to increasing the accessibility of the forests by roads and trails the intermountain district of 0 the forest service includes southern idaho western wyoming all of utah nearly all of nevada and the portion of arizona north of the colorado river within these states or parts of states visitors to the national t forests are reported as follows arizona about the same as 1921 idaho sa s1 an increase of 0 5 per cent nevada an increase of about go 60 per cent madeep made up chiefly of transcontinental tourists who cross portions of national forests only incidentally utah an increase of 0 about 45 per cent doying an increase of 0 about 50 per cent due largely to increased accessibility of the region |
