has not music in himself and is not moved by bv concord of sweet sounds lie he is fit tor for treason stratagem and spoils so we sand sang loves old sweet song for our musical part of the program prayer was offered by mr air ogden every monday day morning we look forward to the senior speeches s this week miss naomi anderson delivered her speech entitled driftwood tho main aim of her talk as all senior talks have alms aims was are you able to stand firm with all the opposition you meet up with in life are you as the pine trees that were firmly rooted in the mountain side and when the flood came did you give up your stronghold as your neighbors or did you stand with a firm determination to win the fight of the senior talks that have been given so far miss anderson made the fourth excellent one given by students from central tho the program was concluded by the announcements from members of the student body and faculty mr martin not forgetting his usual list mr J E jones a representative of the western newspaper union and a resident of salt lake was up to the high school wednesday dav afternoon and gave two illustrated lectures one at tor for the boys and one at for girls the subject of the lectures was how paper is made mr jont jom a s gave us the life of paper making from its infancy to the present day system he gave us the complete history of paper making having its origin in wood and rags mr jones was a visitor 0 of dr and bars Mr Nl arkus and it was through them that we were a able ble to secure his services wednesday afternoon a debate was held in the assembly room at for the purpose of choosing two regular debaters deba tors for the school team and two alternates H E deal beal and miss miller were the judges the two selected for the regular team were rodean jensen and duane neilson for alternates lavee peterson and clynn thurston our school debaters this year are foy christensen rodean jensen with lavee peterson as alternate on the affirmative lamoin cowley v duane neilson with clynn thurston as alternate on the negative those these students have already started work on the state question which is resolved that the state of utah should establish a state constabulary stab this year our school will debate with monroe and gunnison we are trying to have these debates held march 23 and 30 friday was breshie day so to begin the day out right the fre shies gave a rousing assembly which we feel they should be complimented on when we gathered in the assembly room something joined med lacking however it take us long to discover that it was the freshmen there was not one frechie anywhere in sight we all waited patiently to see what would happen the band began to play we heard a noise in the hall like the tramping of an army then the fr fre shies eshie appeared on the scene not as we had expected to see them but all arrayed with Ir elands native color after a second look we saw they all had their playthings such as dolls rabbits teddy bears allday all day day sucker and ast ot of alf all a large can af j pepper 0 on n S a tray which we all watched with interest the class officers took their places on the stage the program was conducted by the freshman president von anderson prayer was offered by a member of the freshman fres linian class the first number of the program or the second was the frechie song accompanied by the band an original piece entitled our freshman adventure was read by iris evans vans judge H N hayes president of the school board gave a splendid talk in which he complimented us very highly on our school spirit and sch scholastic st standing abing ading as compared with other schools he next read a poem goei n on the birth of st patrick and gave a sketch of the good saints life in conclusion sion judge hayes read a few verses that were written by his father some fifty years ago the story of st patrick and the snakes we always appreciate our town friends and the great interest they take in our school the good old R H S following the talk of judge hayes was a dance given by una peterson ai and id nola christensen the senior talk was given by jesse sevy after which was given a musical dialogue by tina ivy and elmer strobel hel entitled no john villa heppler was aiNar awarded ded an ever sharp pencil and a box ot of leads for having displayed the best co costume in the fressie class tom folster received the booby prize a baloon balloon now for the can of pepper we have bave been watching so closely the president stepped forward with the can on a tray it if mr ogdon ogden will came to the front said von we will present him with the can of pepper he gave us at the beginning beg ining of the year we have decided that lip needs the pep as much as we ive announcement was made of 0 the freshman dance to be held in the evening which proved to be the closing event of a wonderful day in the history of our school tuesday a banquet was given by the executive committee assisted by miss and the domestic science and senior girls those present were the members of the basketball footh 11 teams and the members or of last years track team principal T D martin coach hanson and the following members of the alumni I 1 L leslie A poulson H E deal beal waldo raldo nelson george hansen and johnon nelson the members of the executive committee wore were all there frank baker acted as toastmaster and announced the different speakers in their order toasts were given by leslie A poulson waldo nelson and 11 E beal representing the older alumni rehnon nelson representing the younger alumni frank representing the football team owen horne home the basketball team and jesse sevy the track team mr martin and coach hanson also gave toasts the guests all said we sure had a fine time and and some fine eats the week beginning with march is the last week of the third term and we arc all looking forward with much fear to the approaching approach ng exams and the penalties of our terms work report cards will bt bi issued wednesday march |
