Show GLENWOOD EBY 16 PER GE NT EFFECTIVE state and game commissioner gives report of inspecting trip that the new fish hatchery ac at glenwood GI enwood Is a hundred per cent success and that not less than half a zi million fingerling eastern brook tut trout hatched there wilt will be available for fishlake fishlike Fish lake this year la Is the welcome news obtained from a communication the reaper received thursday from state fish and game commissioner D H madsen after mr mad alad sen has made an inspection trip to glenwood GI enwood the letter addressed to our editor reads 1 r was at the glenwood enwood GI hatchery one day ladt week for the purpose 0 of checking over the plant and ascer just what results we were vere having and since I 1 was unable to see you I 1 should like to give you a full fall report regarding the work there with nith the hope that you will give it space in the local paper the hatchery at the present time is is one hundred percent per cent efficient almost a million eggs have been hatched or are now in the course of hatching at the plant some few fe tf changes have been necessary lit in order t to 0 bring about these results but that is not unexpected in a new plant when then you consider that the building was contracted for on september 5 1 l 1 and the first eggs reached the plant on november you may well expect that we would not have had time t 1 m e to care for all the little details that might come up the paint was wag new on the troughs and was partly responsible for the loss which occurred then we found it necessary for hatching eastern brook to make some changes in the water intake in order to bring about the desired results all this has been accomplished and from present indications there will be available for fish lake this year not less thai one halt half million fingerling eastern brook trout under the circumstances the department part ment feels that this is an accomplishment ment worth while for the first year there is no criticism critt elsm whatever to offer to any local assistance at the hatchery the work has been conducted in an entirely satisfactory manner and will continue to be supervised from this office with the view of obtaining the tha best possible results next year we hope to materially teri ally increase the production at this point and barring any difficulty will be able to return at least one million brook trout to fish lake in 1923 in addition to caring for other waters in the southern 11 part of the state |
