Show Eclipse On April 26 Those who enjoy watching an eclipse should have their smoked glasses ready for Monday, April 28, when the only eclipse of the sun to be visible in America this year will occur. It will be total in parts of California, Cali-fornia, Oregon, Nevada, Idaho and Montana, and nearly so in othei portions of the Northwest. Throughout Through-out the rest of the country it will be seen as a partial eclipse. In states using Pacific time the eclipse will begin about 9:40 a. m., ; in Mountain states about 11 a. m.. Central states about 12:30 p. m. and Eastern states about 2 p. m., according ac-cording to their respective times. An eclipse of the sun is caused by the moon coming between the earth and the sun, while an eclips; ' of the moon occurs when the earth gets directly between the sun and the moon. Beecause of the irrg-ular irrg-ular motions of th moon, exactness in predicting the time of an eclipse involves a highly complicated mathematical math-ematical problem. Yet modren astronomers do predict pre-dict them within from one to four seconds of their actual time of occurence oc-curence and these predictions can be made 100 years or more in advance. |
