Show Former Mayor of Moroni Dies John Raymond Blackham Succumbs After' Operation Opera-tion for Ear Tumor John Raymond Blackham, 47, former mayor of Moroni and bishop bish-op of the Moroni L. D. S. East ward, died in a local hospital Wednesday at 11.45 p. m., following follow-ing an operation for a tumor of the ear. Mr. Blackham was born September Sep-tember 18, 1884, in Moroni, a on of John and Matilda Larsen Blackham. He attended Moroni schools and later Snow academy at Ephraim and Brigham Young university at Provo. He married Hannah C Christensen October 18, 1905. He served in the Eastern States L. D. S. mission in 1910 and 1911. He engaged in the sheep and cattle business and also was employed em-ployed at the Moroni Co-Op store until he died. He had served as mayor and city councilman. When Moroni was divided into two wards in 1920, Mr. Blackham became second counselor In Moroni Mo-roni East ward, in 1929 first counselor coun-selor and in September 1931, bishop. bish-op. He was the first president of the Moroni Lions club and was a director at the time of his death. Besides his widow, he is survived sur-vived by his mother and foin sons and a daughter: Edgel R. Blackham, Los Angeles; J. Howard, How-ard, Paul, Eugene and Mary Jewel Jew-el Blackham, Moroni; six brothers and sisters, Lewis L. Blackham, Mrs. E. L. Irons and Mrs. Ernest R. Anderson, Moroni; Mrs. Nellie Morley and Mrs. Clyde B. Hiller, Salt Lake; Mrs. I. M. . Draper, Genola ; one grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted conduc-ted Sunday at 2 p. m. in the Moroni East ward L. D. S. chapel, chap-el, under the direction of the Moroni Mo-roni stake presidency. Burial will take place in Moroni City cemetery. |
