Show Unfair to Sufferers Arousing false hopes in the minds of cancer victims by publishing premature pre-mature reports of alleged cures is "nothing less than criminal,", according ac-cording to a recent statement by a leading ' medical journal. The statement was issued because of misleading reports of experiments experi-ments by Drs. Coffey and Humber of San Francisco, which have been given wide publication in the daily press. As a result many cancer can-cer sufferers have journeyed to California at great expense, only to find that their hopes were in vain. Some interesting developments have been made by the doctors named, but- they themselves have repeatedly stated that no actual cure has been found. By means of certain cer-tain injections they have caused some changes in cancer cell structure struc-ture to take place, but this has been done before without much practical benefit to the patient. With scores of earnest scientists continually working on the problem, prob-lem, it is reasonable to believe that in time cancer may be conquered, but up to the present about the only on-ly hope of the patient is to have the growth removed by the knife while in its early stages. |
