Show Pioneer Lady i Passes Away Mrs. Fredrikka (Rakkie) Brotherson, Bro-therson, 30, died at her heme Monday Mon-day night from ailments incident to old age. She had been failing in health the past year, but was con-j fined to her bed but one day during dur-ing the last illness. Fredrikka Jensen Hemmert Bro-therson Bro-therson was born December 30, 1852, on the island Jutland, Denmark, Den-mark, a daughter of Neils and Maria Jensen. Her father, a fisherman, was drowned in the ocean when she-was she-was a very small child. Her mother, herself and one sister, Mrs. Sena Jensen, came to Utah in 1859, locating in Mt. Pleasant, the year it was settled (1859). Here she engaged in the various activities incident to pioneer pion-eer life. She was an expert spinner spin-ner and knitter. She continued to practice this art, and only two weeks ago gave a demonstration in spinning at North Sanpete high school, at a pioneer program during dur-ing National Education week. She was married to Hans Bro-therson, Bro-therson, a prominent fanner of this community, October 18, 1869 In the Endowment House in Salt Lake City. Her husband died on her 47th birthday, December 30, 1899. She was the mother of 15 children, chil-dren, four of whom have preceded her in death. She was noted for her unusual cheerfulness, her optimistic outlook on life, her helpfulness to others and her outstanding hospitality to any unfortunate as well as her host of friends and relatives. Her home was "open house" to the friends of her many children and her yard has been a play ground for children of the communities com-munities since the early seventies. She served as a Relief Society teacher for 20 years. She, in company with her only sister, Mrs. Sena Jensen, and Mis. Zina Jacobsen visited Denmark, their native land in 1911, spending much time in genealogical research. Surviving are the following children: chil-dren: Hans Brotherson, Mt. Pleasant; Pleas-ant; Mrs. Maggie B. Christensen, Rexburg, Idaho; Nels Brothersen, Price; Orson Erotherson, Elmo, Utah; Mrs. Hyrum Sorenson, Ephraim; Eph-raim; Parley Brotherson, Mrs. Parley Par-ley Hansen, Mrs. P. A. Poulsen. Frans, Floyd and Vernon Brother-son, Brother-son, Mt. Pleasant; also 44 grandchildren grand-children and 12 great-grandchildren. Impressive funeral services for Mrs. Brotherson were held In the South ward chapel Friday at 2 p. m. with Bishop A. L. Peterson in charge. The prayers were offered by P. A. Peel and Andrew Larsen. The speakers were Mrs. H. C. Jacobs, Arthur O. Neilson and Bishop Peterson. A tribute to Mrs. Brotherson Bro-therson from C. N. Lund of Salt Lake was read by Bishop Peterson. Peter-son. Music was by the choir with Mrs. Etta Peterson as soloist. Vocal Vo-cal solos Included "O Dry Those Tears" by Miss Alice Peel; "That Day" by Mrs. T. W. Jensen, and "Thy Will Be Done" by Mrs. Glen B. Miner of Salt Lake. A vocal duet, "Lay My Head Beneath The Rose" was rendered by Mrs. Opal Scovil and Miss Pearl Larsen. The floral offerings were numerous num-erous and beautiful and the house was filled to overflowing. Burial took place in the City cemetery under the direction of the Consolidated Furniture Company Com-pany mortuary. The grave was dedicated by Mads Anderson. |
