Show A Farm Boy's Advice "Only in union is there strength, and the farmers must cooperate in the marketing of their products if thej intend to advance and prosper." This sound admonition is a sentence from the prize essay by 16 year-old Russell Walters of Clinton, Okla., winner win-ner of first award In a south-wide con test by the American Cotton Grower'! Exchange in which about 10,000 boy? , and girls participated. The subjet oi all the essays was "Cooperative marketing mar-keting as it affects the cotton farmer.' I The finals in the contest wore held at Montgomery Ala., where state champions competed for the four medals med-als and cash prizes. Other winners 'were Miss Bruce Traywick, Cameron, S. C, second; Miss Ruth Brown, Anson !County, N. a, third; Miss Sara Morris. Mor-ris. Alpine, Ala., fourth. I The advice given by young Waltere applies with equal force to all farmers, 1 whether they raise cotton or some other oth-er crop. While much progress in cooperative marketing has been made in recent years, the movement is yet in its infancy. An extension of the practice to all farmers would go a long way toward solving one of the most important problems of agriculture. |
