Show Shortest Electric Wave Is Only Ten Meters Long Complete electric waves only ten meters me-ters long, believed to be among Ihe shortest ever produced, have been developed de-veloped by an electric oscillator Invented In-vented by J. I'. Barton, a sophomore student at the Culversity of MinniM-ta. MinniM-ta. The electrical engineering department depart-ment Is beginning experiments to d-termlne d-termlne whether this current Is practicable prac-ticable In radio communication. The waves compare with ordinary lengths of from pxi to meters used In radio communication, while wave lengths In power transmission nre frequently several thousand miles long. One advantage of the short waves Is that they can be used more effectively effec-tively In classroom demonstration than longer ones ran. The Burton oscillator generates pronounced pro-nounced "standing" current so that lit one point on a wire several amperes nre measured, while a few feet away no current Is perceptible. Another of Its freaks la that short circuits on the wire do not seem to affect It. Wnves from the new oscillator have the unusually high frequency of :),. tKXt.Oisl cycles per Sis-ond. |
