Show mm Dr. J. Wallace Makes Survey Report of Goitre Found in North Sanpete Valley. . Many interesting facts are to be gleaned from the survey report of I-r. J. Wallace, goitre expert of t ho Kockefeller Foundation, who has just complete-d ,an examination of the school children of .North Sanpete County. One 'hundred per cent of the schools of the district have been examined ex-amined which is a record percentage tfor Dr. Wallace. In one day over r.ine hundred children were examined examin-ed which is a record day's examina. tion for a rural district, The highest per ceutcite of goitre cases were found in Fairview. fit por cent, while Moroni with 32. S per cent an.! Chester 31 per cent, had the lc.ves; percentage of goitre. An interesting fact found in the re port is that there are more cases of goitre in the cities near the bases of the mountains while the cities of the valley have the lowest percent age of goitre cases. rr. Wallace holds that the lack of iodine in the water supply is due to the fact that the water is carried from the mountains so rapidly that the soluable iodine is carried away. The residue of iodine is greater in the basin cities, and the survey of Saupeta County proves with excep- tion the correctness of the theory. Never has any survey been greater appreciated than the work which Dr. , Wallace has contributed to the peo-l peo-l pie o North Sanpete. Goitre re , cord slips are now being sent to all '' school students. These slips will be filled out by the students or parents par-ents and if returned to the school with the necessary fifty cents will entitle each student to a year's pre-i. pre-i. ventative goitre treatment. Students Stu-dents will be asked to take this preventative pre-ventative treatment irrespective ot whether or not they show signs of being affected with goitre. Free treatment will be provided for in. '; dividuals not able to pay for the r medicine. : Parents are reminded that the slips sent home are to be filled out and returned to he proper authorities at the school. Parents should remember, also, that the treatment will b given to no child except at the request of the parent. |
