UNDERSECRETARY POLK QUITS Will Return to Gotham and Resume Practice of Law. Washington. Frank L. Polk on Friday Fri-day resigned as undersecretary of state and his resignation was accepted accept-ed by President Wilson. Mr. Polk's resignation will take effect ef-fect J une 15, when he will leave Washington Wash-ington to take .a rest before returning: to the practice of law in New York City. His successor has not yet beea selected. Mr. Polk entered government service ser-vice on September 1G, 1915, as counsellor coun-sellor for the state department. Later he was made an assistant secretary of state, and last year was elevated to the post of undersecretary, when that office was created by special act of congress.
