( I' f' t fi m JL., No more will the bleacners roar at the umpire or go wild over a home run at Ebbetts field, the big baseball diamond of the Brooklyn Nationals, as the government has commandeered it as a cold storage plant. According to Charles P. Ebbetts, owner of the- cub, Uncle Sam will trv to make good use of it for the army and navv. Other famous ball fields, including the Polo grounds, home of the New ork Giants, may arso be taken over for similar purposes. It is heartbreaking to Uie fans, of course, but they realize that it is not a good-by, but an au repoir, to baseball. |
