Show UTAH BOY GIVEN DODGE BROTHERS SEDAN Lieut. Maughan of Logan, Winner of Pulitzer Trophy, Takes Dodge Brothers Car Buck to Frisco. Detroit Manufacturers Offer Car M Evidence of Interest in Promotion Promo-tion of Aviution SELFRIDGE FIELD, MT. CLEMENS, CLEM-ENS, MICH., Nov. 21. Just before departing for his home in San Francisco, Fran-cisco, Lieut. R. L. Maughan, Who won the Pulitzer trophy wheu he broke the world's speed record In the aviation races here last mouth, was presented with another and wholly unexpected trophy. It was a new Dodge Brothers Sedan, given by Dodge Brothers, Detroit Manufacturers, Manufactur-ers, as evidence of their interest in the promotion of aviation. The ceremonies were witnessed by Herbert Hoover, Secretary of Commerce, Com-merce, Brig. Gen. William Mitchell, assistant chief of U. S. Air Service and other notables. Immediately after the presentation General Mitchell Mit-chell mounted the plane in which Lieut. Maughan had lowered the world's record and proceeded to establish other records for straight 'flights. The gilt of the sedan is particularly particular-ly significant in view of the fact that it Is the first car ever presented to an individual by Dodge Brothers. Secretary Hoover commented on it as a "splendid example of the patriotism patriot-ism that the country needs if it la to maintain its superiority In the air." General Mitchell was equally enthusiastic. en-thusiastic. Mr. Bloomer, in his presentation address, said. "It Is our belief that an adequate air " force, equipped and maintained to the highest point of efficiency, is absolutely necessary to the safety of this country. Because of this we rejoice re-joice in presenting a specimen of our own product to the-- winner of these contests, feeling that by so doing do-ing we are evidencing our respect and admiration for all those who 'have contributed in any way to your remarkable achievement." Lieutenant Maughan departed im-'mediately im-'mediately for his home In San Francisco, Fran-cisco, where the Dodge Brothers dealer, J. E. French, formerly of Detroit, De-troit, Is arranging for a hughe reception recep-tion when he arrives. |
