Show MILLERAND SAYS WAR 1ST CLOSE FRENCH MINISTER ADVISES MODERATION MOD-ERATION IN Ar PLICATION OF TREATIES. Says That Accord Between Great Britain, Brit-ain, France and Italy Is Indispensable Indispen-sable in the Interest of Maintenance Main-tenance of Peaca. I'aris. At the conclusion Sunday afternoon of his conference with Signor Gioietti, the Italian premier, at Aix-Les-Baines, Premier Millerand declared de-clared to a press corrospendont that "The war must be ended. That is why we have given Poland the counsel of moderation which she seems disposed to follows. "Our interviews have been most cordial cor-dial and confident. Naturally we have agreed that an accord between Italy, Great Britain and France is indispensable, indispen-sable, not only in the interest of the three allied powers, but for the maintenance main-tenance of world peace. "The treaty of Versailes must be enforced, en-forced, as well as that of St. Germain and the others, because they constitute an entity, and one of them cannot fail without the others being shaken. I am absolutely in accord with that point upon the formula accepted at Lucerne. Treaties must be applied with moderation moder-ation by the victors and with loyalty by the vanquished. 'Settlement of the Adriatic question occupied some of our time. Our position posi-tion is unequivocal. Great Britain and France at San Remo and myself before be-fore and after San Remo have stated that neither Great Britain nor France has the right to interfere between two parties when a question concerns them alone. "It is our duty to make all efforts to persuade our. Italian and Jugo-Slav friends that it is to their interest and he interest of both countries and also the world that this question, too long deferred, be settled at the soonest moment mo-ment possible in a spirit of equity and moderation." The premiers agreed to recommend moderation to Poland in her victory In order that peace might prevail at the earliest date possible. But they were not sure that the Bolsheviki were desirous de-sirous for an early peace. The relations of the entente with the Bolsheviki also were discussed without developing any great difference in policy. |
