Show "OLD FOX" CAPTURES PROMISING YOUNG STARS FOR WASHINGTON . -: -' -.V- f - V - V -Mf N-v j r'f CL-H j : The "old fox," Clark Griffith, is trying to get some new blood on his team. Pitcher Acosta and Second Baseman Holohan were purchased recently from the-Rochester club of the International league. Griffith intended to convert Holohan into a shortstop, for he is highly thought of as a fielder, although not a particularly beavy'hitter. Then the Washington manager secured the services serv-ices of Frank O'Rourke, shotstop of the Toronto club, to report at the end of the International season. Following this. Griffith dickered with Connie Mack and secured the veteran third baseman, Fred Thomas, in exchange for Maurice Shannon, the young inflelc'er. Then he got in touch with the Tampa club of the Florida State league and bought two infielders, Foss and Lamotte, to report as soon as they can be spared by Tampa. And last, but certainly not least, he purchased First Baseman Frank Brower, the Babe Ruth of the International In-ternational circuit, from Reading for $15,000, and this star is to report at the end of the season. |
