Show TWIN CREEK CLAIMS GIRL ASA. VICTIM Mary Elizabeth Peterson, age 7 years, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Peterson, fell into Twin Creek east of Mount Pleasant Friday evening, June 22, at about 8 o'clock and was drowned. The accident occurred oc-curred while attempting to cross the stream. Her sister, Eva, was assisting assist-ing her across by walking along the stringers of an old bridge which had been uncovered for repair work. The pole gave way and the two girls fell, Eva being the older caught hold of he next stringer and hung by one band until she was rescued by Lawrence Lawr-ence Peterson, who hurried to the scene when he heard the screams of her sister, May, who was on the bank near by. Mary was lost immediately in the raging waters of the big stream. Lawrence heard her scream but never saw her when he got to the stream. Word was telephoned to the city and the lire alarm was sounded. A large searching party i as soon on the way to the stream ind the night was spent looking for the"" body of the Little girl. The men .vorked deligently but were unable to recover the body until Saturday morning at about 10 o'clock. Andrew-Norman Andrew-Norman and Ferd Hansen discovered ihe body about one-half mile below the bridge. Her father was herding sheep at the time near Schofield and came over Saturday morning. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the South Ward Chapei. Bishop Mcintosh presiding. The ward choir was present and furnished music. President A. Merz and President Presi-dent O. N. Lund were the speakers. Bishop Mcintosh made the closing remarks. Interment was made in the city cemetery. |
