Show PEACE DAY SUNDAY, APRIL 13. Sunday, April 13th is to be celebrated cele-brated throughout all Utah as Peace Day. On that day It is aimed by the League to . Enforce Peace, whichis promoting the observance, ,to have world peace made the subject of every sermon preaehedMn all chiurch-es chiurch-es in the state. - And is Is also Ssked that peace music be included in every church musical program. The chairman of .each county in the state for the Utah branch of the League has been asked to "take charge of the Peace Day observance in his district; seeing that all communities are provided pro-vided with suitable speakers and that all possible cooperation be given in the observance to church leaders. President Heber J. Grant of the Mormon Church has heartily endorsed endors-ed the holding of Peace sessions and has consented to have speakers on the peace question appear in every ward In the state on Peace Day. The Ministerial association has given its hearty cooperation and it Is expected that every creed will take up with zest the holding of peace services. In case speakers cannot be found for any one community the committee commit-tee on information and speakers of the league will hold themselves . in readiness to furnish some prominent citizen to give the address. And in order to be fully prepared for such sessions, the committee are holding institute sessions at which the leading lead-ing topics of the world peace discussion discus-sion are being studied. Dr. George W. Middleton is chairman of the committee, and Dr. George Emery Fellows of the University of Utah, Prof. Joshua Paul of the same institution insti-tution and Dr. E. A. Smith, three big school men of the state, will have charge of the institute. Governor Simon Bamberger has sent out a proclamation asking that the people of the State observe Peace Day. A PROCLAMATION. "In the hope that the people of Utah may be given the opportunity to form sound and mature views on this question through discussion by those who have given it careful thought and to .give humble expression expres-sion to our thankfulness for the triumph tri-umph of right over might, now, therefore, I, Simon Bamberger, Governor of the state of Utah, do hereby designate desig-nate Sunday, April 13th, 1919, as Peace day, and urge that appropriate services be conducted in homes, in churches and other places of public meeting in commemoration of this important period in the world's history." |
