Born to the wife of Bryant Larsen a baby girl, November 13th. A telegram was received Tuesday evening announcing the death at Camp Kearny of Raymond D. Spring City people joined in the National rejoicing of the peace news Monday and Monday evening. Mayor Johnson, upon hearing the news, declared de-clared the day a holiday and all the places of business were closed. Everyone Every-one who could cease from work did so and the celebration was commenced. commenc-ed. A large parade of automobiles from Mount Pleasant and Spring City joined at Spring City in making a 'circular trip through Mount Pleasant, Pleas-ant, Spring City, Chester, Sugar Works and Moroni. They had the Kaiser's goat in a livestock truck and the Kaiser was made to ride the radiator rad-iator of J. G. Schofield's Jitney Bus, which became very uncomfortable on account of the extreme heat before the trip was finished. Nevertheless he was made to stand it all, being hooted and hissed from every side on the entire trip of twenty-two miles. He was then strung up on Main Street near the city hall and what was left of the Kaiser after the shot guns ceased to roar is hardly worth mentioning, and as we didn't care to have even that much of him left, a large bonfire was started, and amid cheers from the people the last of the Kaiser was consumed by the leaping flames which were kept burning burn-ing until late in the night. From the time the news was received in the morning until late in the evening all the bells were rung continuously, and the whole populace spent a day of happy rejoicing which may not be duplicated during their lives. We are still rejoicing that "Old Glory" still floats over "the land of the free and the home of the brave." Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Beck of Sandy are here visiting with relatives. Mrs. Beck is reported to be suffering with Influenza, having been down since arriving here. |
