To encourage the saving of fruit and vegetables at a time when the supply of sugar is limited, a program for canning without sugar is being carried out this season by the United States Department of Agriculture and State Agricultural colleges thru the hoys' and girls' clubs of the 33 Northern and Western states. Fruits are put up in boiling water instead of syrup; unsweetened products are canned for pie filling; fruits are made into syrup, which can be used in many ways in place or sugar; and fruit juices- are also preserved by sterilizing them to be used later for making jellies, jams, and marmalades. marma-lades.
