Forest fires are raging in virtually every timbered area of the Pacific Northwest and hundreds of men are being rushed t6 augment the crews which have been working to control blazes constantly growing in number and size for the last week or ten days. Fires are burning in every county of western Washington from the Canadian Can-adian border to the Columbia river, in eastern Washington, northern Idaho, Ida-ho, western Montana, central and western Oregon. The situation is so serious that leading lead-ing logging operators of western Washington have with few exceptions abandoned all efforts to work in the woods lest they add to the peril by the danger of setting new blazes in the tinder dry areas.
