Show Mt. Pleasant Electric Light and Power Plant The construction work on the new Electric Light & Power Plant for the city of Mount Pleasant which is being built east of Mount Pleasant in the mouth of Pleasant Creek canyon is being rushed to completion. comple-tion. There are about forty men employed by Lyman & Samuels, the firm who has the contract for the erection of the plant, and they are busy each day laying pipe, mixing cement, and building the dam to turn the water into the pipe where it will be diverted into power for lighting purposes. The foundation for the power house is already laid and the building proper will soon be in the course of construction. The place selected is an ideal power pow-er site. It is near the mouth of the canyon and also far enough up the creek to get ample power for the required re-quired purposes. The plant is one of the very finest in the state. The pole line is second sec-ond to none in Utah. All the poles are of imported cedar and each one is set in a cement base five feet in the ground. This will protect them for many years and add greatly tD their durability. The water wheel is one of the best Henry Impulse Wheels. The plant will be furnished with a General Electric Generator and Exciter together with a Dicker-son Dicker-son Governor and the power house will be made of Salt Lake pressed brick. The contract calls for the completion comple-tion of the work on August 20th and it will be put in running operation opera-tion on September 1st. Mayor James W. Anderson, who is Superintending the work, is daily found busy on his job and Councilman Council-man Lauritz Larsen is overseeing the line work in the city. Mr. Fran-zer Fran-zer and Samuels, who have charge of the work in ihe mountains, are doing a fine piece of work in the construction con-struction of the new plant. The specifications are being followed in every detail and when the work is completed the plant will be a credit to the city. Parkinsen has charge of the erection of the transmission line and is making one of the best pole lines in central Utah. There is about a mile of continuous continu-ous stave pipe 22 inches in diamter made of Wisconsin fir which will lead the water from the dam and diverting works in the creek above, along the side of the canyon to the place above the power house where it will be connected with a heavy-steel heavy-steel pipe and dropped down the slope to the power house. It will furnish from six to fourteen second feet of water with a head of 320 feet. This will generate two hundred hun-dred and fifty horse power in the lowest water season, which will be ample power for eight thousand 25 wat lamps. The plant will be large enough to furnish Mount Pleasant with all the power they need for many years to come If ever there is a greater demand for power than what is expected ex-pected within the next fifteen years the power can eaislybe increased by adding to the present plant. The city was advised by many other cities owning municipal plants not to over build as it was much better to add to later on if the demand required re-quired more power. Nearly every person employed on the work are from Mt. Pleasant and they are receiving good pay for their services. The price paid is higher than they have received before be-fore for such labor. All the councilmen have been very active in giving the mayor all the assistance he needed in the undertaking. under-taking. Merz was very active in getting the work started and whenever when-ever assistance was needed each one willingly responded. |
