AND THEM HIMSELF Pocat.ello, May 2. James Carr, who was employed on the federal building here, shot and killed Mr. and Mrs. 3. D. Thayer this afternoon and then committed suicide by shooting himself with the same gun. Mrs. Thayer and Carr died within a few minutes and Thayer lived for about an hour. Carr had been boarding with the Thayer family and is said to have been Infatuated with Mrs. Thayer and to have yuarreled with her hus-oand. hus-oand. He made a threat this morning morn-ing that he would "wipe out the bunch." The shooting took place in a small house near a tent in which the Thayers lived. Carr used a .38 ;aliber pistol. Ali three of the persons per-sons were about 30 years of age. Thayer was an extra engineer on the Oregon Short Line and both he and Carr were well known here. Mrs. Thayer was a former resident of Mt. Pleasant and was known by die name of Heltie Beck.
