Show 10 LAOS SWEPT OVERNIAGARA FALLS WERE PLAYING IN BOAT WHEN ROPE BROKE AND THEY WERE CARRIED DOWN' RIVER. Hundreds Swarmed to River Bank in Vain Endeavor to Rescue Boys Who Calmly Shook Hands Before Going Go-ing Down to Death. Niagara Falls, N. Y. Donald Roscoe, 10 years old, and Hubert Moore, 9 years old, of Niagara Falls, went to their death in a small boat late Sunday Sun-day afternoon in the Whirlpool rapids, while hundreds of men watched helpless help-less on the shore and two companies of firemen used every endeavor to Bave the lads. The boys were playing play-ing in a flat bottomed scow, half a mile above the rapids, when the rope holding the boat broke and they were carried out into the stream and went down the river. The boys, realizing their fate, stood up as the boat neared the edge of the roaring whirlpool, and shook hands In farewell. A second later they were engulfed en-gulfed by a great wave in the rapids. The boat shot out of sight. One of the boys was seen for a moment struggling in the rushing waters, and then disappeared. Neither body has been recovered, and it is probable that the bodies never will be recovered. |
