Show PiOcket jGrns Galore Rocket guns, mounted on landing land-ing craft, have been tested in the Pacific campaign, where Rear Admiral Barbey says they have contributed to morale and established es-tablished themselves as excellent excel-lent weapons for use in beachhead beach-head operations. When heavy naval shelling, air strafing and beach-bombing lift to permit landing operations, according to the admiral, the rockets protect the small boats, keep the enemy under cover and give the first wave of troops a-shore a-shore an opportunity to escape heavy losses. While details of the use of the rocket guns in the Pacific have not been revealed, the report of Admiral Barbey gives us an in-cation in-cation of tactics to be used in the invasion of western Europe, and other places. There, as in the Pacific, landing operations will be in charge of naval reserve officers of-ficers who have been trained for the job and are doing a fine work everywhere. |
