Show I MORONI Bv Special Correspondence ' Manorial Service Held For Mem Jacobson Killed in Battle Most impressive memorial services for Private Mem Jacob-son, Jacob-son, who was killed on May 30th in New Guinea, were conducted last Sunday in the Moroni West ward chapel at 1 o'clock p. m. It was under direction of Mervil Zabriskie Post of the American Legion of Mt. Pleasant. In connection con-nection with their program, a vocal solo, "The Flag Without A Stain," was sung by Mrs. Grace Westenschow, who was accompanied accom-panied by Mrs. Deneice Black-ham. Black-ham. The speaker, who eulogized 1 the life of Mern Jacobson, was Bishop Ephraim Nelson, who paid beatiful tributes to his splendid character. The congregational singing was conducted by Mrs. Florence Christensen, with Mrs. Lyda Christensen at the organ. He is the son of Mrs. Margaret Jacobson and was born Aug. 17, 1918 in Moroni. He attended the Moroni High School and also the Utah State Agricultural College. In March, 1941, he went in the U. S. Service and in February, 1942, he was sent overseas. Survivors include his mother, a brother, Bernard, who was tranced a leave from the U. S. Navy to return home for the Memorial services; another brother, broth-er, Frank and two sisters, Mrs. Phil Anderson of Ephraim 'and Norma Jacobson of Moroni. The chapel was almost filled to capacity with sympathetic relatives and friends of the family fam-ily in their sad loss. The members of the "Chum" club met last Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Joyce Whitman. After their meeting, plans were discussed for their next meeting, after which delicious refreshments refresh-ments were served. A splendid group of young boys of Moroni East ward left last Monday for a trip to Fish Lake, accompanied by Bishop B. A. Childs. They are members of the Aaronic Priesthood class and none were permitted to go unless they had merited the trip by their completed work each Sunday as members of that group. Those who were eligible to go were: Glen Bailey, Donnell Blackham, Max Blackham, Burnus Livingston, Livings-ton, Rue Van Buren, Allen Niel-son, Niel-son, Clair Morley, Philip Christensen, Chris-tensen, Lynn Nielson, Robert Nielson, Bert Gee, Kay Johnson and Ray Sumsion. They all enjoyed en-joyed their trip greatly and returned re-turned back home on Thursday. They are now enthused about another trip next summer to Yellowstone National Park and are striving to be eligible to attend at-tend it also. Mr. and Mrs. Urvin Morley and family are moving into their new home this week. They have been living in the home of his mother, Mrs. Maria Morley while the building has been going on. Mrs. Morley's home will now be rented by Mr. and Mrs. Morris Jensen and family. They will move in this coming week. - Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Blackham and family of Ruth, Nevada are visiting with friends and relatives rela-tives at Moroni. Mrs. Ruth Spell and daughter, Marilyn of Ruth, Nevada have come to live with her mother, Mrs. Samuel Blackham and will remain here indefinitely. Mrs. Lloyd Blackham entertained enter-tained the immdiate family members last Sunday, the occasion oc-casion being her husband's 50th birthday anniversary. The afternoon af-ternoon was spent in a pleasant social way, after which a delici- ous hot dinner was served. Mr. and Mrs. Harris Yorgason and family of Ely, Nevada are spending a few davs here with his parents, Mr., and Mrs. Orson Yorgason. Mrs. George H. Draper spent a most happv day last Suday, it being her 80th birthday anniversary anniver-sary when 25 friends and relatives rela-tives called on her to wish her many happy returns of the day. The time was spent in a pleasant i social way, after which a delici- j ous luncheon was served. Shej received many beautiful gifts, j Those from out of town were her ; daughter, Mrs. Mamie Madsen of Provo, Utah and Mrs. Elinor Niel- son with her daughters, Geniel, Jean and Dora of Fountain Green, Utah. Mrs. Peter Justesen returned home this week after a month's visit with her children in Fielding, Field-ing, Utah and Salt Lake City, U-tah. U-tah. Her son and wife and son, Larry of Salt Lake City are visiting visit-ing in Moroni. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Peterson spent last week in Salt Lake City, Magna, and Payson, Utah. They were attended by their son, 1st Sergt. Dennis Peterson, who is stationed at Natagorda Penn, Texas. Mrs. Mable Shaw and daughter, daugh-ter, Ramona of Malta, Idaho returned re-turned to their home this week. They were accompanied by Miss Electa Robertson, who will spend her summer vacation there. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Moss and family of Grand Junction, Colo, are visiting with relatives and friends here. Mr. and Mrs. Luzon Draper and son, Roger of Dragerton, U-tah U-tah are spending a few days with relatives and friends at Moroni. Mo-roni. Mrs. Rena Blackham entertained enter-tained the Artopic Twelve at the home of Mrs. Julia Sorensen. There were six members present. Mrs. Marie Arnoldy was a special auest. Luncheon was served and a good time was enjoyed by an. |
