Show Mount Pleasant Citizens Are Becoming Air Minded The Mount Pleasant Lions club members were entertained at i their regular meeting at the Sandwich Shop Cafe by the Manager Man-ager of the Provo, Utah Air Port, Merrill Christopherson and Ralph Daniels, druggist of Payson, U-tah. U-tah. The visitors flew down from the Provo Air Port early in the afternoon and took all of the Lioin Club members, who were at the local Air Port, for a free ride in the lovely little 750 pound Er-coupe. Each new passenger in the plane was permitted by Mr. Christopherson to take over the simple controls of the plane and fly it themselves to get the "feel" of flying and the thrill of handling the plane themselves. During the evening luncheon Mr. Christopherson told of many enjoyable flights he had made throughout the Rocky Mountain area and the flights he had made back east. He told of the mammoth mam-moth air port building and improvement im-provement program contemplated contem-plated by both state and federal governments, and how new air ports would be located near recreational rec-reational centers such as Fish Lake and Strawberry and how the mails would be transported via Air Mail. He stated that Mount Pleasant's hangar is sce-ond sce-ond to none in the state of Utah, and we should be using it to good advantage. Mr. Christopherson advised the citizens of Mount Pleasant to organize or-ganize a flying club and learn how to fly so that our chances for a slice of state and federal funds would not be jeopardized by lack of interest in our Air Port. It was pointed out that the many aviators who are now in the Army Air Corps Will want to fly upon their return home and the facilities therefor should be maintained and improved. Dr. B. B. Madsen, who is very enthuusiastic about this, called a meeting for Wednesday evening eve-ning at 8:00 o'clock at the Mount Pleasant City Hall for the purpose pur-pose of getting at least five citizens citi-zens to sign up with Mr. Christopherson Chris-topherson so that a flying school can be established in Mount Pleasant, Utah. All persons, male or female, who are interested in flying, are cordially invited to attend this meeting and learn more about the flying school that is sure to be established here. |
