Show Moroni Merit Award Winners Are Announced; Program Is Listed Graduating seniors who will be presented with medals or certificates of merit in the commencement com-mencement exercises to be held in the West ward chapel tonight to-night include: Ray Sumsion, LeGrande Anderson, An-derson, Jerry Draper, Yvonne Despain, Larona Irons, Joan Nielson, Wilma Justesen, Myr-na Myr-na Simpson, Glade Lamb, Joyce C. Nielson, Connie Larson, Morris Mor-ris Oldroyd, David Faux, Maur-ine Maur-ine Robertson, Ellna Nielson and June Nielson. These awards are given to students who have won honors for participation in athletics and other inter-school contests in the various departments where the students represent Moroni high school. Honors are also given to student body officers offi-cers for their services to the school. In order to receive a medal, a student must have won three honors during his high school career, and an additional ad-ditional certificate of merit is given those students who have won five or more honors during their high school days. June Nielson will be awarded the University of Utah scholarship schol-arship at graduation exercises tonight. LeGrande Anderson will receive the scholarship to Brigham Young university. One-year earned scholarships to Snow College will go to Mary Draper in home economics, Larona La-rona Irons in music, Morris Oldroyd Old-royd in farm mechanics and Ray Sumsion in biology. An additional scholarship to Snow College, given to the school for winning first place on Senior Day at Snow, had not been awarded at press time. Thirty-eight seniors will be graduated tonight in commencement com-mencement exercises to be held at the Moroni West Ward meeting meet-ing house, at 8:15. This is the thirty-fifth graduating class of Moroni high school. After the traditional march of the graduates, the invocation will be given by Wilma Justesen. Juste-sen. The processional march will be played by Chester A. Stone. The invocation will be followed by "Come Thou Almighty Al-mighty King" and the "Battle Hymn of the Republic" sung by Moroni high school chorus. The address of welcome and introduction of student speakers will be given by Morris Oldroyd, senior class president. The senior sen-ior boys' chorus will then sing "Stout Hearted Men". In line with the school policy of encouraging student participation partici-pation in graduation exercises, the work of the various departments depart-ments of the high school will be discussed by members of the graduating class. Mary Draper will discuss the work of the home economics department; farm mechanics will be discussed by Eugene Mikkelson. Ray Sumsion will speak on the work of the agriculture agri-culture department and Joan Nielson will outline the service af the commercial department. Phyllis Christiansen, Kenna Johnson, Merilouise Hansen, - Connie Hansen, Connie Larson Myrna Simpson and Ida Olsen will sing "The Sunshine of Your Smile." The music department will be explained by - Helen Anderson and Yvonne Despain will speak on the art work done in the school. June Nielson will represent rep-resent the English department. Maurine Robertson will give a reading, "The Blind Man," in representation of the speech department. de-partment. David Faux will delineate de-lineate the work of the boys' physical education classes and Claydine Morgan will speak for the girls' physical ed groups LeGrande Anderson will speak on behalf of the science department depart-ment and Ellna Nielson will discuss social science studies. Larona Irons will sing "My Task". Spafford Sumsion, principal of the high school, will then present the graduating' class and Superintendent W. N. Ball will award the diplomas. This will be followed by the presentation presen-tation of awards and scholarships scholar-ships The entire senior class will sing "A Perfect Day" and the benediction will be offered by Richard Johnson. Graduation exercises will be followed by a commencement ball at the Bungalow. This dance will be open to the public |
