Show Every Soul Needs Some Soil Scott Passey was pulling one of his celebrated gags. Or at least that's what we thought when he said he'd like some publicity on the observance, Sunday, May 22, of ."Soil and Soul Sunday." We thought he said "Soiled Soul Sunday" and figured it was a day for some of us backsliders to get the grime scraped off. Actually "Soil and Soul Sunday" is a serious and highly commendable observance of the ageless relationship relation-ship between the soil from which man lives and his soul. Scott explained that the movement to set apart such a day began four years ago and that it is now nationwide with most of the large farm organizations actively sponsoring sponsor-ing it. Among these are the Sanpete Soil Conservation Service and the county conservation district. Representatives Representa-tives of these organizations will be speakers at religious services Sunday. The Bible says "The Earth is the Lord's and the fullness full-ness thereof." Is it not then appropriate that man should pause and contemplate on his responsibility to the soil? It is natural to appreciate good soil from an economic standpoint, but should we not also take stock of our stewardship and our responsibility for maintaining the soil's fertility, or as the Bible puts it, "the fullness thereof." |
