Show SPRING CITY 1 By Special Correspondence ' Stena Allied Observes 90th Birthday Anniversary Feb 18 Mrs. Francis Madsen held open Friday afternoon from 2 too 5 when a number of relatives and friends and neighbors called to wish a happy birthday to Mrs. Stena Anderson Allred, who on that day observed her 90th birthday birth-day anniversary. More than 40 people called to extend their best wishes to the honored guest. Icecream and cookies were served during the afternoon. Stena Allred was born Feb. 18, 1854 in Talstrup, Hjoring Amt, Denmark. She was a daughter of James Christian and Margaret Christiansen Anderson. When 3 years of age, she with her parents immigrated to Utah, crossing the plains in Captain Christian Christiansen's hand cart company, com-pany, arriving in Salt Lake City September 3, 1857. The family first lived at Moroni and later moved to Spring City in 1S66. On December 19, 1870 she was married to Tilman Allred in the Salt Lake Endowment House. Her husband died in 1903 while in Canada visiting their son. Mrs. Allred is a very active person, per-son, spending many hours reading read-ing church works and other interesting in-teresting material. She was for many years a relief society visiting visit-ing teacher and is now a member mem-ber of the local D. U. P. Seven of her nine sons and daughters are still living, and are, Mrs. Francis Madsen, at I whose home she is now living, Mrs. Clarissa Erown, Spring City; Mrs. Cedena Clovvard, Aurora; Mrs. Elmina Aiken, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Myrtle Hansen, Evans-ton, Evans-ton, Wyoming; Que Allred, Clearfield, Utah and Pleber All-red All-red of Roosevelt, Utah. There are 29 grandchildren, 45 great-grand children and 7 great great grand children. She has 6 grandsons and 4 great grandsons in the Service of our country. Sunday evening Mrs. Allred was pleasantly surprised by Mr. i and Mrs. Que Allred of Clear-, field, Mr. and Mrs. Cloy Allred of Ogden and Quinton Allred, who is home on a furlough from the Navy, coming to Spring City to 1 visit with their mother and grand ' mother; also to visit with other' relatives in Spring City. The visitors vis-itors all left again Tuesday morn -1 ing- Jens Sorensen Observes His 92nd Birthday, February 22 On Tuesday, Feb. 22nd Spring City's oldest male resident was honored on his 92nd birthday anniversary an-niversary at the home of his son. Christian Sorensen. The honored gentlemen is Jens Jorgan Sorensen, Soren-sen, who was born in Elling. Denmark Fedruary 22, 1852, a son of Soren Christensen and Marie Jorgensen Scram. In 1884 the family came to Utah after embracing the Gosnel as taught by the Later-day Saints. Thev settled in Spring City where Mr. Sorensen has since made his home. For manv years Mr. Sorensen Sor-ensen presided o-'er the S"andi-navian S"andi-navian meetings hpld here until that part of the Church Services were discontinued. In March, 1913, Mrs. Sorensen died. The couple were the parents par-ents of 8 children, 5 of vhom are still living. The" a-e Margin So -"nsen, Winnant-i-ee, Wash.; Jas. So-e-sen. Po-allo. Idaho; Ot- ' o J. Sorensen. Salt Lake City , Mrs. Martina Blain, Sunset and Christian Sorensen, Spring Cit-where Cit-where Mr. So-ensen is making his home at the present time. There are 29 granchildren and 31 great granchildren. Open house was held from 2 to 5 o'clock when many friends of the distinguished gentleman called to wish an old friend and always a kind neighbor a Hap; Birthday. Mrs. Angus Black was Sunday hostess at a family dinner given at her home in honor of Mrs. Clinton Black of Salt Lake City, who was here visiting relatives. The dinner was also to honor Spencer Thompson who is home on furlough from Louisiana. Mrs. Phillip Tummev of Ely, Nevada is here visiting with her parents and caring for her mother, moth-er, Mrs. Aaron Brough, who just returned home from the Utah Valley hospital, where she underwent under-went a major ojeration. Mrs. Frank Larsen of Fairview was here a few days this week to visit with her aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brough. Captain and Mrs. Dan Rue Hickman are the proud parents of a baby girl born Feh. 8fh. The mother is the former Miss La Ree Terry. Mrs. Joseph Beck gave a turkey dinner Friday evening in honor of her husband and son, Lucis Reed at a joint birthday. Out of town guests -were Mr. aim Mrs. Harold Arnoldsen and daughter, Jaleen of Moroni. Mrs. Walter Ganz of San Francisco, Fran-cisco, Calif, came here Saturday to visit with her folks as her father, Arthur Anderson is very ill. Mrs. Jack Bemis and young daughter of Gunnison is here visiting vis-iting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lorenzo Larsen for a few days after their husband and father entered the Service of our country. coun-try. The Fidelia Lettitia club members mem-bers sponsored a dancing party Friday evening in the Victory Hall. A goodcrowd was in attendance at-tendance and the dancing was to the music of the Manti orchestra. orches-tra. Amasa Hansen and family of Salt Lake City vis! fed here and in Mt. Pleasant with relatives over ov-er the week end and also Washington's Wash-ington's Birthday. Mrs. Leonard Robinson was hostess Sunday at a family dinner din-ner in honor of Mr. Robinson's birthday anniversary. Henry Blain observed his birthday birth-day anniversary on Saturday, February 19th. Mrs. Delone Carlsen was Thursday Thurs-day hostess at a Quilting Bee. Dinner was served to the neighbors neigh-bors and friends who attended the quilting party. A fire broke out Wednesday morning in a garage at the home of Mr. and Mrs. diaries Justen-sen Justen-sen and destrodey a number of articles stored in the building, among them was a bicycle belonging be-longing to their granddaughter, Faye Householder. i Neldon L. Jensen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lamont Jensen, is home on furlough from Camp Chaffee, Arkansas. |
