Show Metal Mines Produce $158,000,000 In Utah An all-time record was made in Utah's production of the five principal metals during 1947, according to figures just released re-leased by the U. S. Bureau of Mines. The value of gold, lead, copper, silver and zinc amounted amount-ed to $158,100,773 a new high record. Utah's mines during 1947 produced pro-duced more gold than was produced pro-duced in any other state. The yield was the highest in the state's history, 421,662 ounces and its value was calculated at $14,75S,170. Copper production during 1947 amounted to 553,066,000 pounds which was a gain of 133 per cent over the previous year. The value of the yield was placed at $111,943,S60. Silver also had a good year with a production of 7,7S0,032. a gain of S9 per ctVt over the previous year. Our silver production pro-duction was valued at 7,040,939. Lead showed a 62 per cent increase in production amounting amount-ing to 99,396,000 pounds valued at $14,313,024. Zinc likewise showed an increase in-crease in production volume with a 36 per cent increase which amounted to 87,346,00 pounds worth $10,044,790. Over a period of years Utah has been near the top among the leading states In the production pro-duction of these five important metals. Uranium Tests in Grand County At the request of the Atomic Energy Commission, the Department Depart-ment of. Interior has withdrawn from entry and reserved for the exclusive use of the government. 115 square miles of public land in southeastern Utah and southwestern south-western Colorado. Hotel and Motor Court Operators To Meet The Ninth Annual Convention of the Utah-Nevada Hotel Association As-sociation will be held at Ogden. September 25-26. Campbell Ee-cles, Ee-cles, President of the Association will preside. The Utah Motor Court Association Associa-tion will hold its third annual Convention at Vernal, Utah, on October 9th and 10th. President Presi-dent E. P. Sorensen, will preside at this convention. Both conventions will consider con-sider ways of rendering better service to tourists and the traveling trav-eling public, and will also make a study of Utah's scenic attractions, so that correct information in-formation can be passed on to the tourist. While at Vernal, the Motor Court operators will inspect the Utah Field House of Natural History recently brought to completion by the Utah State Department of Publicity. They will tour Rangely Oil Fields and will visit the Dinosaur National Monument at Jensen. Expansion and Rebuilding Equipment and parts for the Orem Steam Plant, one of the first units of the Sixty-Million-Dollar expansion plan of the Utah Power and Light Company, have been ordered and some of them have been delivered. The new plant will be a 44,000 kilowatt kilo-watt unit and will be located in Orem. The Western Rock Bit Manufacturing Manu-facturing Company has just gone into full production in its new $150,000 plant in Salt Lake City. Largely locally owned this company, housed in a 5,000 square foot building, will produce pro-duce 3,500.000 bits annually. The bits are used in the mining and construction industry. The United Concrete Pipe Co. of Pleasant Grove and Los Angeles. Ang-eles. California, have just spent more than S100.000 re-modeling their Pleasant Grove concrete pipe production plant. The plant can now produce the huge pipe with the use of all modern conveniences. They have the contract for furnishng the pipe for a 7'-mile section of the Salt Lake aqueduct. |
