Show Utah Turkey Show SetFor Nov. 17-19 November brings a lot of talk about turkey1 but for Utah and the Intermountain West this talk will center mainly on the second annual Utah Turkey Show to be held November 17, 18 and 19 at the State Fair Grounds, Salt Lake City. With many entries in the live and dressed divisions coming com-ing in from all parts of the West, William A. Barlocker, show manager, said that th'j show has a good chance of be ing an even greater success than the first Utah show of a year ago when turkeyrnen from many parts of the nation were impressed. Judging of this year's show- will be done by Harvey P. Griffin Grif-fin of Sonoma., California, nationally nat-ionally known authority on turkeys, and owner of the Wagon Wag-on Wheel Ranch in California. Mr. Griffin, who judged the lit st Utah Turkey Show a year ago at Provo is known for his part in developing the popular "short-legged" Broad Breasted Bronze Turkey. As something new this year's turkey show is featuring an auction sale of about 1500 top quality turkeys of the dressad division on the final day of the show. Auctioneer will be M. B. Potratz of Ames, Iowa, who sold the top bird at the National Nat-ional Turkey Federation Show last January for $30 a pound. There are several firms making plans this year to buy the grand champion dressed bird at the Utah auction. Throughout the auction sale, many birds will be 'given away to visitors and buy- ?rs. The "give-away" birds I -nd those for the auction sal?! tie being donated to the Utah luikey Show by members of I the Utah Turkey Federation and allied interests of the turkey ii-t ii-t ustry. Show prizes will be awarded fer the largest torn and hen tur kr-ys exhibited regardless of u here they come from or who enters them. The conven tion will be held at the Hotel Utah and climaxed by a banquet ban-quet in the Starlite Gardens. Calendar of events for th-. show and the federation convention conven-tion is given as follows: Thursday, November 17 9 a. m., registration for the show (all ciay) at the state fair grounds and registration for the conven tion at Hotel Utah; 11 a.m., judging of dressed division birds; 2 p.m., judging continued and 8 p.m. opening meeting o! the Utah Turkey Federation convention con-vention at Hotel Utah. Friday, November 18 9 a.m , judging of live division turkeys; 10:30 a.m., explanation of grades and classes of turkeys by Ear; Hutchings of the State Department Depart-ment of Agriculture; 2 p.m., judging continued; 4 p.m., mayors' may-ors' and commissioners' drawing for "give-away" birds; 7 p.m. Fowl Fashion Show; and 7:30 p.m., open house and get-acquainted at display booths.
