Show I SPRING CITY ! By Special Correspondence j Mrs. Annie M. Sandstrom, 69, passed away at her home early Tuesday morning, after a lingering linger-ing illness of some time. She was born in Monroe, Utah, May 10, 1876, a daughter of An-tone An-tone and Maria Bertelson. She has been a life time resident of this city. Mrs. Sandstrom married Albert Sandstrom in the Manti Temple in 1896. He passed away in 1939. She was a faithful member of the L. D. S. church and served as a teacher in the ward Primary organization. Surviving are three children: Mrs. Sylvia Petersen, Spring City and Lynn Sandstrom of Midvale; Ivan Sandstrom of North Salt Lake; two brothers, Alvin Bertelson, Bertel-son, Spring City, Alonzo Bertelson Bertel-son of Axtell and a sister, Mrs. Nelda Neilson died three weeks ago. She was a resident of Spanish Fork. There are 11 grand children. Three grandsons served in the armed forces, one being recently discharged. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 o'clock with interment inter-ment in the City cemetery, under the direction of the Ursenbach funeral home. The Spring City annual Old Peoples party is scheduled for Thursday, January 31, in the ward Amusement Hall. A Banquet will be held promptly prompt-ly at noon, followed by a program pro-gram and other entertaining features fea-tures with a dance in the evening. All ward members of sixty years and over, widows, widowers widow-ers and shut ins will be the special guests. The standing committees in chargewill be: Bishop and Mrs. E. B. Terry, Mr. and Mrs. Royal Allred, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Draper, Drap-er, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Acord, Mr. and Mrs. Reid H. Allred, Mr. and Mrs. James F. The Victory clothing drive is well under way in this city. All city districts and homes have have canvassed with an outstanding out-standing response of several hundred artciles pf clothing brought in packed and are ready for shipment. Os-borne. Mrs. Reid H. Allred entertained a number of lady relatives at her home, Thursday afternoon. The time was spent in playing rook. A delicious lunch was served by the hostess. Russell Aiken, Coxswain, is home on a thirty-day leave. He is a veteran of the Pacific cam-pain, cam-pain, and wears two battle stars. He enlisted in the Navy and left for Service May 29, 1944, training at San Diego, California Califor-nia and left for overseas January 11, 1945. He has been stationed on an assault transport and has crossed the Equator four times in his travels and made five trips across the Pacific. In the year traveling 83,000 miles on water. Within that time he has been to Esplritu Santos, New Hebndies Islands, crossing the International Internation-al date line January 22,- 1945, Guadalcanal, Dutch New Guinea, Guin-ea, Leyte, Guam, Pearl Harbor, Ulithi, Caroline Islands, Manila, two trips to Saipan and to Sa-sebo, Sa-sebo, Japan, at the latter place he witnessed the destruction of the Atomic bomb at Nagasaki and surrounding country. He participated in the Invasion of Okinawa "L" Day, Easter Sunday, Sun-day, and at Leyte. While at the latter place they were bombed each mgnt ior two He wears the Philippine Liberation Liber-ation ribbon and Asiatic campaign cam-paign ribbon. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Vero Aiken. Mrs. Bertha Blain has received word her son, Billie Blain, is now stationed at Little Rock, Arkansas, Arkan-sas, where he will train in the future. T4 Charles Petersen is now home having received his honorable honor-able discharge from the Army January 13, 1946. He entered the Service May 6, 1942, and trained at Ft. Warren. Wyoming, Camp Baltimore, Md.; Mt. Renier, Washington; Ramona, California: Mississippi and Miles Standish, Mass. He left for over-(Continued over-(Continued on last page.) A hot lunch was served by the hostess. host-ess. Mrs. Mary E. Acord has been a recent visitor in Ogden, visiting visit-ing her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Acord. The members of the North Sanpete San-pete Stake Primary Board held a monthly board meeting at the home of Mrs. Hazel Black. Reports Re-ports on past visits tothe various wards were given. Scripture reading was given by Mrs. Ada Ellis, Mrs. Vurlene Osborne and Mrs. Athene Osborne. Discussions Discus-sions for the next union meeting took place. Lyle Blain, veteran of the European Eu-ropean Theatre, his wife and small daughter, have moved to Salt Lake City where he will be employed. Mf. and Mrs. Hyrum Sorensen have received word their son, Ted is now stationed in Maryland and will training there for some time. Richard Beck, son of Mr. and Mrs. Osmer Beck, is also training train-ing in Maryland. These two young men enlisted in the Army in December. They are cousins and left together for service. Pvt. Richard Crisp is at present pres-ent stationed in India. He has been in service for some time and trained in Texas. He is a son of; Mr. and Mrs. George Crisp. I Allen Hansen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph F. Hansen, is now stationed in Montana and has been placed in the Military Police. Po-lice. He trained at Camp Roberts, California. Mrs. Legrande rfansen has been a visitor the past week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Orland Hansen. She is living at San Diego, California where her husband hus-band is now stationed. He Is the first son of Mr. and Mrs. James Petersen to return home. A brother, Nel-don, Nel-don, who for months was stationed sta-tioned in Denmark, is enroute home. A brother, Don is in the Navy. Mrs. May Larsen is at present in Manti staying at the home of Mrs. Christena Petersen. They are caring for Mrs. Lena Bradley, who is in very poor health, at the present time. She recently fell and her health has been worse since her fall. Ray Neilson, husband of Mrs. Mildred Pederson Neilson, returned re-turned home from Service Monday. Mon-day. Recently he has been in China. He entered the Service on May 29, '1944 and has been in the Navy. He has now receiveu mis honorable discharge. He is a son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. James Pederson. Pfc. and Mrs. Edwin Pederson announce the birth of a baby daughter. This is their first daughter and third child. Edwin is enroute home for some time. He has been stationed in the Philippine Islands, before being sent to Japan. He is the third son of Mr. and Mrs. James Peder son to be in tne service ana me last of the three to return home. Mrs. Tessie Pyper and small baby are at present visiting relatives rela-tives in Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. William Ball and daughters, Colleen and Joan Ball, attended the funeral services serv-ices the past week of Mr. Ball's father at Coalville. Mrs. Glen Nunley was the hostess host-ess Friday evening to the members mem-bers of the Bridge club. A delicious de-licious lunch was served by Mrs. Nunley. Mrs. Hilda Jensen is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Edna Otteson and family at Price. Mr. and Mrs. Claren Schofield have been Salt Lake City visitors the past week. Mrs. Clinton Black and small son of Salt Lake City have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. Angus Black at Spring City. Mr. and Mrs. Angus Black entertained en-tertained relatives at a supper party Saturday evening in honor of Morris Beck, recently returned from Service "in the European Theater. Mrs. Harold Mickel entertained a group of children Friday evening eve-ning at her home in honor of her son, La Nae. The occasion was his tenth birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Royal Allred and daughter, Leila Allred, were Salt Lake visitors Saturday. They visited Roger Allred, a veteran for several years of the Pacific Theater of war. Roger is enroute home and has been ill in the Fort Douglas hospital for a couple cou-ple of weeks. His health is now improved. Kay Larsen and wife are visit ing his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vivian Larsen. Kay is a member of the Coast Guard and has been stationed inCalifornia. Mrs. Eva J. Butler and children of Salt Lake City Were week end guests of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Jensen, Jen-sen, and Mrs. Sarah Covert. They were accompanied here by Ned and Deanna Ericksen. Special musical numbers and talks were presented Sunday afternoon af-ternoon in Sacrament meeting at an introduction to the Girls Leadership organization. The various parts given were: " a talk by Mrs. Vurleen Osborne, I chairman of the committee. She explained this organization in the ward. A vocal solo by Miss Sherma Allred. Mrs. Ruth Mc-Kinney, Mc-Kinney, assistant to Mrs. Osborne, Os-borne, explained the responsibility responsi-bility of the officers and the ! members, also the awards to be earned by participation. A trombone trom-bone duet was given by Miss : Yvonne Schofield and Miss Fan-'on Fan-'on Watson, accompanied by Miss : Patsy Schofield. Talk, "The First Principles of The Gospel," Miss Neva Beck. Remarks by Bishop E. B. Terry. A. presented a program in the Moroni East ward chapel Tuesday evening, under the direction of Activity leaders, Mrs. Emma Sorensen and Virgus Osborne. The special numbers were: Trombone duet, by Yvonne Schofield and Fanon Watson, accompanied by Patsy Schofield.
