C.-ecial Corespondence Jcr.-.o Sailer S;:ies Dor fey Passes Jane Ea'ley' Syrnes Durfey, 73, died at her home in Moroni Saturday Sat-urday a:':er;ioon following a lingering lin-gering illness of anemia. Mrs. Durfey, a life-long resident resi-dent of ihis city, was born in Moroni Sept. 10, 1873, a daughter o: David W. Bailey and Elizabeth Elackham. She has been . an energetic worker in the Church, serving 30 years as a visiting teacher in the relief society and her charity work in the community has been outstanding. She was on the sewing sew-ing and burial committee for the dead of the ward. She was married to Richard ! Symes of Moroni, Oct. ,2 1889. After his death she was married to Hilliam A. Durfey, in August, 1939. She is survived by her husband hus-band and the following sons: Stanley Symes, David Symes, Ruel Symes, John Symes, Whyley Symes and Lees Symes, all of Salt Lake City; Alden Symes of Moroni and Terrance Symes of Idaho. There are 38 grandchildren; grandchil-dren; 12 great-grandchildren. Ten grandchildren are in the , armed forces of the United States, five are overseas. Services were conducted here Tuesday at 2 p. m., in the East ward chapel, under the direction of Bishop B. A. Childs. Interment was in the Moroni cemetery under the direction of the Jacobs Mortuary of Mt. Pleasant. Pleas-ant. Funeral services were held last Tuesday in the Moroni East ward chapel at 2 p. m. for Mrs. Jane Bailey Syme Durfey, with Bishop B. A. Childs conducting. The prayers were offered by Jabez Faux and James Larsen. The speakers, who paid such beautiful tributes to her life and character were Bishop Daniel Anderson, Bishop Morgan Lamb and Bishop B. A. Childs. The combined East and West ward choir rendered three numbers and and a vocal duet, "Beautiful Home," was. sung by Mrs. Leona Irons and Kate Lewis, accompanied accom-panied by Mrs. Faye Draper. A male quartette "My Task," was sung by Mack Morley, Harold. Arnoldsen, John K. Guymon and Monte Blackham. Their accompanist accom-panist was Miss Carol Christensen. Christen-sen. The chapel was filled to capacity with friends and relatives, rela-tives, who mourn her passing. The many beautiful floral offerings offer-ings showed that she had a host of friends and aiso tlie high respect re-spect which the community had for her and her family. Interment was in the Moroni cemetery where Mr. H. Brown of Provo dedicated the grave. The Chum Club met at 3 o'clock June 12th at the home of Lois Jensen. The meeting started by the members saying the Club Pledge. Then a short program consisted, of Maurine Robertson giving a reading., The club cooked a complete breakfast, and it was enjoyed by all present. There were three visitors. Plans were made for the next meeting, following fol-lowing which the pledge allegiance alle-giance was given and the meeting meet-ing was dismissed. Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Morley from Arlington, Va., are here visiting with relatives and friends. This is their first visit at home for nearly ten years. Mrs. Lillian Sorensen entertained enter-tained the Cousns Birthday club at her home on Saturday, July 15th. She was assisted by her two daughters, Mrs. Art Home and Mrs. Glen Rasmussen of Nephi. Minutes of the last Birthday Birth-day club was read by Mrs. Vine Blackham. A poem entitled, "The C. B. C," was composed and read by Lillian Sorensen. The remainder of the day was spent visting and chattng with each other. At 6 o'clock a hot dinner was served to the following: follow-ing: Mrs. Retta Nelson of Mt. Pleasant, Mrs. Minnie Oldroyd of Fountain Green, Mrs. Lucy Blackham, Mrs. Edna Draper, Miss Keston Sorensen, Mrs. Thel-ma Thel-ma Bell, Mrs. Mae Hardy, Mrs. Christiana and Thelma Sorensen, Mrs. Vine Blackham, Mrs. Bertha Jensen and Mrs. Julia Sorensen. Special guests were Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Morley of Arlington, Va. Euray Larsen of the U. S. Navy is enjoying a furlough with rela-! rela-! tives and friends at Moroni. He has been stationed in Iceland and has been transferred now to California. The family of Mrs. Marie Larson Lar-son held their annual reunion last Sunday in Nephi canyon where more than 60 people were in attendance. A baseball game was enjoyed by the adults and other activities for the children as well as a pleasant social af- fair. Delicious eats were then prepared and enjoyed by all who attended. Miss Aria Nielsen left Monday to spend a two-week's vacation with relatives in Basin, Utah. She was accompanied as far as Salt Lake City by her mother, Mrs. Christian Jensen and daughter, June, who returned home on Tuesday. Mrs. James Hardy and Mrs. Mozart Larsen are at the St. Marks Hospital where they have both undergone operatons, and they are now on the road to improved im-proved health. I Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Morley of Arlington, Virginia were royally entertained at Maple Canyon last Sunday by the immediate rela- tives, who held their Nelson fam-1 ily reunion there. Ninty people' spent the day visiting together! having a most enjoyable time. A hot dinner was served during the afternoon. Miss Darlene and Janell Draper spent last week end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Draper as well as their many friends at Moroni. Funeral services for Mrs. Eliza Bradley were held last Wednesday Wednes-day at 2 p. m. in Moroni (West ward chapel with Bishop FeViton Draper conducting. The prayers were offered by Urvin Gee and Soren C. Nielsen and the speakers speak-ers were Vernile Jensen and Bishop Bish-op Ephraim Nelson, both of whom paid most beatuiful tributes to her character and life and her devoted service as a church worker work-er throughout her career. She will be missed greatly by her associates associ-ates as she was one of the most faithful members of her ward. The combined East and West ward choir furnished three numbers num-bers with Mrs. Florence Christensen Christen-sen as soloist in the one song, and was also the conductor. Mrs. Clara Larson sang a solo, "God Understands," accompanied by Mrs. Francell Hansen of Fountain Foun-tain Green and a vocal solo, "Backward, Turn Backward," was rendered by Mrs. Grace Westen-schow, Westen-schow, accompanied by Mrs. Lyda Christensen. Interment was in the Moroni cemetery, where the grave was dedicated by Andrew And-rew L. Bradley. The many beautiful beau-tiful floral offerings and the unusually un-usually large attendance of relatives rela-tives and friends at the services demonstrated the high esteem and respect in which she and her family are held in our community. communi-ty. Mrs. Boyd Goble and young son are visiting with her husband, hus-band, who is in Roseville, Calif, where he is in the U. S. Army. Mrs. George Worthington of Nephi visited a few days last week with her daughter and family, fam-ily, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Olson at Moroni. Mrs. Esther Tidwell and her daughter, Adele went to Payson last Friday where they spent a few days with relatives and some friends. The Jr. Sorosis club members met last Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs. Ruth Christensen Christen-sen where they enjoyed doing needlework and spent a pleasant social hour. A delicious lunch was served to all present. Jimmy Aagard, age 7, of Nephi is spending a few days with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Os-car Hansen. Last Thursday evening a group of girls went on a trip up North of the Frandsen hill, but they run i out of gas and had to walk back. Thy enjoyed a Weiner roast and played games. They also played games and had a most enjoyable I time. The girls who were in the group were Eldean Van Buren, Helen Olson, Voneal Curtis, Dorothy Doro-thy Christensen, Garvene Faux, Marceline Bailey and Betty Jean Despain. The "Victory" club enjoyed themselves at a swimming party last Wednesday evening, after which they served delicious refreshments. re-freshments.
