Show itfater Becomes The Most Important Crop of All During the summer months cne weather becomes warmer vegetation of all kinds becomes drier, and water becomes more important. It is during this time of the year that we are made to realize that water is the most valuable "crop" obtained ob-tained from the moutain areas of Utah. The value of water which falls as rain and snow in the mountains of Utah far exceeds ex-ceeds the value of all other crops from the same areas. . Other "crops" agriculture, livestock, timber, game are secondary and in reality are permissible per-missible only to the extent our water crop allows. Quite frequently fre-quently our water crop is jeopardized jeop-ardized by poor methods of harvesting har-vesting timber, over-grazing of livestock, or allowing fire to strip the soil surface bare. Nature puts the water into the mountains, but we as men can help keep it there to come down in usuable amounts during the summer months by preventing lires and regulating other activi- ites on our mountain areas. |
