Show New Bus Rate Will Become Effective On Jan. 1 In Davis Since Davis County voters approved a y4 cent tax to support better bus service, a new rate structure will go into effect January 1 on the three . bus routes now running through Davis County, explained Brad Barber of the Transportation Planning Committee. BUS FARES are determined deter-mined on a zone system with a dividing line in mid-Far-mington. For everyone living north of that line, a trip to Salt Lake has cost 90 cents, and a trip to Ogden has cost 45 cents. The new rates will be 30 cents to Salt Lake City and 15 cents to Ogden, for persons boarding buses north of mid-Farmington. mid-Farmington. FOR RIDERS south of that line, the situation is reversed. A trip to Salt Lake City did cost 45 cents and a trip to Ogden 90 cents. The new fares will be 30 cents and 15 cents. Additional bus routes may not be implemented until next spring, when new buses which are already ordered are expected to arrive, said Mr. Barber, though there is some possibility that a few buses may become available for additional ad-ditional Davis County service in January. "IT WILL probably take throughout the year to fully implement the new bus routes," said Mr. Barber. He expalined that the committee is hoping to have 75 percent of the new routes operational by July 1. There will be large buses running on the primary routes servicing workers, and some small 30-passenger buses may be used in areas where there are not many riders. Altogether, there will be between 25-30 buses operating in Davis County on 18 routes by the end of next year. MR. BARBER says this will increase the number of service ser-vice miles run in Davis County from the present 200,000 service miles per year to 613,000 service miles. |
