Show Syrnes Says "Some Progress" Secretary of State James F. Byrnes reports that "some progress" prog-ress" has been made in connection connec-tion with the effort to establish peace in Europe. This is encouraging but should not cause us to overlook the important im-portant issues that hemain to be adjusted. Perhaps greater progress will be made when the Peace Conference convenes in Paris late this month to discuss treaties for the smaller nations and, we hope, the four foreign minisTers will be able to get together to-gether on problems concerning Germany and Austria. It should not be overlooked by the people of this country that, under the rule requiring unanimous unani-mous consent of the Big Four, it is impossible to make any effict-ive effict-ive progress without the cooperation coopera-tion of Russia. While the Russians Rus-sians talk very much about cooperation, co-operation, they have failed to give ground on issues and seem somewhat bent on having their way upon all matters concerning the new set-up in Europe. |
