Show SPRING CITY By Special Correspondence Mrs. Hilda Hope Bertelsen observed ob-served her Soth birthday, July 30. She is exceedingly active for her years, her health permitting her to walk some distance daily, to work about the house and premises. pre-mises. She enjoys reading, and has a special hobby of crocheting, fine hand sewing and piecing beautiful quilts by hand. Her sense of humor, her keen memory mem-ory and friendly spirit makes her a remarkable personality. Mrs. Bertelson was born on July 30, 1861 in Gottland, Sweden, Swe-den, a daughter of Carl and Hannah Han-nah Nordstrom Johnson. She joined the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Sa-ints there and came to America in 1S8S. For some years she lived in Salt Lake City and there was married to Carl Hope. Later they came to this city where she has since resided. re-sided. Her mother joined the church in Sweden and came here in 1899. Few of the family or relatives came here. Mrs. Bertelson has been an ardent and faithful church member being an active member for years of the Danish choir here, also a Relief Society visiting teacher for many years. She has one son, Rudolph Hope, County Treasurer, and four grand children. Joseph Beck and Angus Black were visitors in Salt Lake City, Monday. They were there on business in connection with the North Sanpete School Board. Mr. and Mrs. Lafayette Broth-erson Broth-erson were Provo visitors Friday, also in Provo the same day were Mr. and Mrs. Vance Allred and Rex Worthen. Mr. and Mrs. Allen Reid Black visited Sunday at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Angus An-gus Black. The young couple are residing in Salt Lake City where Allen Seid is attending school. Leroy Black is recovering from a leg injury received while milking. milk-ing. The cow became frightened and struck him in the leg. Mrs. Ella Carlson is visiting her two daughters in Salt Lake City, Mrs. Earl Trathen and Miss Elverna Carlson. Dean Allred, grandson of Mrs. Nancy S. Allred, enlisted in the Navy and is now receiving his boot training at San Diego, California. Cali-fornia. Mrs. Mary Jensen has returned' home after an extended visit to California with her children. She was accompanied home by her son, Leon Jensen and family of aiuui ilia. Mr. and Mrs. Preston Mitchell and family of Riverton have visited vis-ited the past week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Justesen and Mr. and Mrs. Ruthford Osborne. Os-borne. They were accompanied home by Charles Osborne, who will visit there. Bruce Madsen is visiting in Moroni Mo-roni at the home of his grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Reese Brad ley. Mr. and Mrs. Owen Olsen and family and Mr. George Olsen of San Francisco, California spent several days visiting their parents, par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. John Olsen. Mr. and Mrs. Virgus Osborne, Glen and Leo Osborne, were Provo Pro-vo visitors Friday. Don Peterson, son of Mr. and Mrs. James A. Peterson, is home from Service having received his honorable discharge from the Navy. Mr. and Mrs. John H. Coleman left Wednesday for a trip to Yellowstone Yel-lowstone National Park. They were accompanied there by their children, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Coleman of Salt Lake City. Mrs. Mary Finell visited in Salt Lake City during the week and attended wedding of her neice, Mrs. S. Tipton and Floyd Wiles. She also visited at Bingham Canyon. Her sister-in-law, Mrs. E. D. Downing of Oakland, California Cali-fornia came back home with her and visited in Spring City for a week with Mrs. Finell and her friends and relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Virgus Osborne, Miss Manett Allred, Glen and Leo Osborne visited in Manti Friday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Pratt Allred. The occasion was the birthday anniversary anni-versary of Mrs. Allred. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Allred and small daughter, of California Califor-nia have recently visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. All-red. All-red. Mrs. Nellie Blaln visited Monday Mon-day in Moroni with her mother, Mrs. Seerena Ostler. Visiting at the home of their father, John S. Blain, the past week have been Mrs. Ida Raddatz of Provo and Mrs. Florence Aa-gard Aa-gard of Fountain Green. Mr. and Mrs. Don Hansen of Salt Lake City are at present living liv-ing in this city. They are residing re-siding at the Denton Plumley home. Mrs. Rose Schofiold is attending attend-ing summer school in Salt Lake City. Mrs. Irene Aiken entertained the Social Service club members at her home Friday evening. Eagle Rock, California and Veo Lund of Montbello, California. Mrs. Erma Norman visited Wednesday with relatives in this city. She is from Mt. Pleasant. The group prepared and enjoyed en-joyed their supper at the Recreation Recre-ation Park in the canyon, and later had a watermelon feast at a large bon fire. Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Bodly and little daughter of Oakland, California have been visiting with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Christofferson at Spring City. Mrs. Dorcus Blain and Miss Eula Lea Blain, spent Saturday and Sunday visiting in Salt Lake City with Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Blain and Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Christensen. Thev went to attend at-tend the birthday of Lyle Blain. While there a babv daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Blain. The baby was born on his birth-da birth-da v. Mr. and Mrs. Bud Benson have been visitors the past week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cutler Schofield and Joseph G. Schofield. Scho-field. The visitors live in Oakland, Oak-land, California. Mrs. Bernice Hansen was hostess host-ess Monday evening to the members mem-bers of the Bridge club. Special guests of the evening were: Mrs. La Priel Nielsen and Miss Nedra Larsen. Those winning prizes were: Mrs. Dorothy Mickel, Miss Nedra Larsen and Mrs. Winona Allred. Mrs. Hansen served a delicious lunch to her guests. Sherry and Connie Acord of Ogden, small granddaughters of Bishop and Mrs. E. B. ferry, are visiting at their home. Russel Aiken and Glade Petersen Peter-sen spent the week end in Ogden and Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Naylor of Payson visited Sunday with their mother, Mrs. Mary K. Allred and a sister, Mrs. John H. Coleman. Mrs. Edra Petersen of Pleasant Grove visited several days the past week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Allred. She was accompanied home Sunday by Mr. and Mrs. Allred and Miss Manett Allred. The family and friends of Mrs. Boyd Allred observed her birthday birth-day Monday afternoon. Mrs. Burns Allred was remembered by friensd and relatives on her birth day Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Tucker and family are spending the Twenty-Fourth Twenty-Fourth of July with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Pratt Osborne. Mr. and Mrs. Terrance Aiken of Idaho are spending a month here in their former home. The family of Vero Aiken celebrated cele-brated his birthday Thursday afternoon af-ternoon with a fishing trip to Palisade Park. |
