Show ; MORONI I s 1 By Specal Corespondence I Funeral Services Held Sunday 1 For Mrs. Caroline J. Swensen Funeral services for Mrs. Mary ; Caroline J. Swensen, 76, were held in Moroni West ward chapel last Sunday at 3:30 P. M. with counselor Rulon Johnson con-i con-i ducting. Prayers were offered by Seon 1 Livingston and Soren Nielson, and the speakers were Jabez Faux, Urvin Gee and Thomas Chatwin of Mammoth, Utah, all of whom paid beautiful tributes to her life and character. A vocal solo, "My Task," was sung by Harold Arnoldsen, with Carol Christensen as accompanist accompa-nist and Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Peterson of Salt Lake City sang a duet, "In The Garden." The combined East and West ward choir, under the direction of Mrs. Isabelle Kellett, furnished two numbers with' Mrs. Florence Christensen singing the solo in "I Know That My Redeemer Lives," and Mrs. Kellett and Lewis Blackham sang the duet, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." The unusually large number present at the services, as well as the many beautiful floral offerings, of-ferings, all demonstrated the high esteem, love and respect in which she and ner family are held in the community. The family have the deepest sympathy of their many relatives and friends in their bereavement. Interment was in the Moroni City cemetery where the grave was dedicated by Bishop Ephraim Eph-raim Nelson. Mrs. Mary Caroline Jensen Swensen died at her home in Midvale Thursday, July 25th at 6:30 p. m. of natural causes. She was born Dec. 31,1909, in Moroni, a daughter of Andreas and Marie Lauritzensen Jensen. She was an active member of the L D S church in Mammoth, Juab county, where she was president of the M. I. A., and served in the Relief society. She lived in Mammoth Mam-moth most of her married life. She was the widow of James Swensen, who died in November, 1941. Survivors include a son, James El wood Swensen, Moroni; six daughters, Mrs. Anna Dora Richardson Rich-ardson and Mrs. Jessie Carlston, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Marie Peterson, Peter-son, Midvale; Mrs. Alda Lind-strom, Lind-strom, Santaquin; Mrs. Lola De-Spain, De-Spain, Ely, Nevada; and Mrs. Nelda Polaski. Los Angeles; two brothers. Andre"w Jensen, Salt Lake City, and Bill Jensen, Moroni; Mo-roni; three sisters, Mrs. Louisa Christensen, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Tena Gee and Mrs. Larena Nielson, Niel-son, Moroni; 26 grandchildren and 23 grcat-granchildren. Mrs. Myrtle Hutchison and Mrs. Pearl Storey of Blackfoot, Idaho spent three days this week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Russel Bailey. Mrs. Van Livingston and young son visited this week in Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Gayle Bailey and children of Salt Lake City are spending their summer vacation at Moroni. A most delightful party was held in Maple canyon on Tuesday Tues-day evening which was sponsored spon-sored by the West ward Bishopric and given in honor of all the ones who worked so diligently on the July 4th and July 24th celebrations for the benefit of their new chapel building fund. Their partners were also invited and in attendance and the new West ward choir was present to furnish singing for the occasion. A huge bonfire was made and after an extemporaneous program, pro-gram, weiners were roasted, fol- lowing which delicious watermelon water-melon was enjoyed. There were over a hundred people present. Pioneer Day was spent in a most fitting manner in Moroni last Wednesday. Sons and Daugh tors of the D. U. P. sponsored the splendid program at 10:30 in the West ward chapel, fs well as children's sports at 12:30 on the church lawn, and aiso the children's chil-dren's dance at Joyland at 6:30 P. M. At 2:00 I 1.1. at the rodeo grounds a most interesting and enjoyable entertainment was given under direction Oi the Moroni Mo-roni uett ward Building Committee Com-mittee which was followed by a dance in Joyland ,"r. the evening. It is estimated that thousands of people were in Moroni during the day and night. All proceeds from the day's celebration will be ucod for the building of tire new West ward chapel, which is being planed for the future. Mr. and Mrs. James Everett left this week for Alhambra, California Califor-nia where they expect to make their home in the future. Mrs. Earl Bailey and children of Salt Lake City returned to their home Wednesday after a few days visit here. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Revill and baby spent two days this week in Salt Lake City. Miss Gladys Dice spent last wek end with friends in Salt Lake City. Eddie Guymon, the 3V2 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. John K. Guymon, it at the Dice hospital where he underwent an operation opera-tion for hernia on Wednesday. He is improving nicely at this time. Mrs. Cleon Anderson and -Mrs. Ida Dice were co-hostesses at a delightful out of doors party at the home of Mrs. Dice last Saturday Satur-day afternoon. Guests were members mem-bers of the Sr. Sorosis club, numbering num-bering 14. Progressive Rook was played with prizes going to Mrs. Lewis Blackham and Mrs. Rodney Rod-ney Anderson. A two course luncheon, carried out in colors of pink and green, was served at 5:30 P. M. The hostesses were assisted in serving at small tables ta-bles by Mrs. Jack Anderson and Mrs. Glen Dale Larson. Special invited guests were Mrs. Spencer Christensen of Sacramento, California; Cali-fornia; Mrs. Earl Blackham, Mrs. I Isabelle Kellett, and Mrs. Rodney Anderson. Mrs. Christensen re-1 re-1 ceived the guests prize. I Mr. and Mrs. Chesley Madsen I and two young daughters of I Clearfield, Utah spent last week i visiting at the home of Mrs. Jen-: Jen-: sen's father, John E. Jensen and j also relatives at Mt. Pleasant. I Mr. and Mrs. Lee Nunley an-'nounce an-'nounce the marriage of their son, j Wallace to Miss Ruby Buchanan of Manti on July 26th at Manti. They have gone to Park City where he has employment. Everyone is wishing for them a long life of happiness and success. suc-cess. Mrs. Winnie Rasmussen of Fairview spent the first part of the week here with her mother, Mrs. Celia Nelson. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Hiller and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hiller of Salt Lake' City spent July 24th visiting here at the homes of Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Irons and Mr. and Mrs. Clair Cahoon. Mr. and Mrs. Rodney L. Anderson Ander-son are in Salt Lake City this week visiting at the new home of their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Aagard, who recently moved there from Fountain Foun-tain Green, also Mr. and Mrs. Leon Holman and Mr. and Mrs. Udell Anderson, who are all residents resi-dents of Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Johnson have purchased a home in Fountain Green and with their two children chil-dren have moved into it last week. |
