The result of the vote will be watched with interest especially since a German radio station, beamed to South Africa, attempted at-tempted to influence the electorate, elec-torate, specially the soldiers, not to vote. General Smuts, the Prime Minister, Min-ister, could have prolonged the life of this Parliament but held that this would have been contrary con-trary to the primary principles of democracy. Consequently, the outcome of the election is expected to reveal re-veal the Union's attachment to the British Commonwealth of nations na-tions and to reflect the opinion of the people in regards to the strain of war. |
