Show Vapor Lock Is Hot Weather Trouble During hot weather a motor may fail to start after stopp'ng, or will stop and refuse to start after pulling pull-ing hard on stej grades. Usually the trouble is vapor lock, caused by the gasoline changing from liquid to vapcr before It reaches, the combustion chamber, according :o the Emergency Road Service of the Utah Motorist Association. When the motor stops from this cause about the qu'ekest way to U'vccome it Is to lay wet burlap or we'; rags on the fuel pump and fuel line to cool them off. Care snor-ld be taken to avoid contact with the manifold or other parts that are of cast metal and may ct.-tck when cold is suddenly applied. If the first application fails to net results it should be repeated. When the motor starts it should be allowed to idle at sl:ghtly faster thin usual idling speed. This will permit the fan and cooling system to lower the temperature of the motor. After getting started, hard pulling should ba avcided by shifting shift-ing to second gear and driving at normal second gear speed for some distance, then alternating between second and' high i.ear until the motor has cooled down, to normal c!ir ing temperature. |
