Show Extension Service Convention Reported By Director Peterson William Peterson, director of the Utah State Agricultunal college extension ex-tension service recently returned frc(x the regional conference of extension ex-tension workers in 11 'western states at Zephyr Point on Lake Tahoe, Nevada wfaere problelxls of rural interest in-terest were considered. Since the conference was divided into three parts, adlxtinistrative, 'clothing and horticulture, director Peterson iwas laccaxpanied by Miss .Susie Sanford, clotjbing specialist and Arvil L. Stark, horticulturist, for Utah. In 1937 a colxlxilttee composed of Director F. A. Anderson of Colorado and B. H. Crccheron director for California and Director Peterson was apt dinted to prepare and present pre-sent a report on agriculture and holxte economics in the l'l western states. This was done and at the Lake Tahoe convention was reviewed. review-ed. . This report centered around the efforts cf the extension service in reaching the farm population of the region. The conclusion was reached that ix lore work must be done for our farmers and especially in boys and girls club work. TUls plan is to ifce correlated with the efforts of existing government agencies that are operating in the cgricultural field. Director Peterson reviewed the Physical measurements of the regicn including topography, climate, population, pop-ulation, livestock, irrigation, reclamation, re-clamation, indain lands and national nation-al parks. He stated that the western region comtirises approximately 40 percent of the total area of the United States. Ten of tie 11 states were represented, repre-sented, New Mexico's director being detained because of illness. |
