Show James Larsen Honored On 80th Birthday Mr. James Larsen, one of Mount Pleasant's pioneers, was the honored hon-ored guest at a birthday party given at his home Saturday evening, eve-ning, it being his eightieth anniversary. anni-versary. Mrs. Laisen and her daughters, Mrs. H. C. Jacobs, Mrs. A. W. Anderson and Miss Helen Larsen acted as hostesses. Sixty guests spent a most enjoyable enjoy-able evening. The entertainment iias furnished by the children and g andchildren of the family. Rem-miscenses Rem-miscenses and old time stories were related by the guests who were principally of Mr. Larsen's family. The serving table was covered with a cloth of filet and cluny lace and held a centerpiece of six princess prin-cess candles. The rooms were dec-crated dec-crated with carnations and ferns. Out of town guests were Mrs. Annie Swensen of St.. Anthony, Idaho; Mr. and Mis. Kimball Jo-hansen Jo-hansen of Delta; Mr. and Mrs. John Dorius cf Salt Lake City; Mr. and Mrs. Glen Jensen of Idaho; Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Jensen of Ephraim. James Larsen was born in Ephraim, Eph-raim, January 18, 1858, son of Jens and Mary Anderson Larsen. He came with his parents to this city in 1859, where he has since made his heme. When sixteen years old he engaged en-gaged in freighting to the mining towns of Nevada and Utah; when he was twenty years of age he started farming, along with freighting and later engaged in sheep raising. In 1879 he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad Company, grading for the track which was laid into Juab County. He also worked on the Sanpete Valley Railroad, making mak-ing ties and working on the grade when the track was laid entering Moroni, in 1880. He was married to Eliza Maria Tidwell, July 28, 1881 in the Salt Lake Endclwment House. From 1880 to 1890 he filled a mission mis-sion in the Southern states, laboring labor-ing in Georgia, Alabama and Florida. Flor-ida. In 1910 and 1911 he filled a mission in the Manti Temple. He was one of the organizers of the Mt. Pleasant Electric Light Company and Mt. Pleasant-Moroni Irrigation Company; he served one term as a city councilman; was rr.ade vice president of the Mt. Pleasant Historical Association, at its organization and has presided as president of the society for more than twenty years. He was bishop of the South ward for thiiteen years. Under his direction di-rection the South ward chapel, which was last year destroyed by fire, 'Was erected. |
